I just purchased a 700r4 transmission mated to an np208 with a solid output yoke from an '88-'89 blazer. The tranny was new from GM like 1 year ago. Everything appears like it will bolt up just fine to my '79 350 and crossmember. I have a front driveshaft from an '84 that I believe is the correct length and I will have the rear lengthened or shortened as needed. The question I have is reguarding a four prong plug that is located on the topside of the transmission just above the left rear corner of the tranny pan. How should I hook this up? My '79 has no provision for electronics in the tranny. Do I need to rig up some kind of switch? Can I just place a dust cap on it and run the tranny without the electronics? What does it do? Is it just a neutral start/ backup switch? Is it a VSS or something I can ignore? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
Michael.

The plug if for the torque converter and yes you can run with it off, my dads fell off and it worked fine but your torque converter will not lock up in 4th. There is a conversion kit for that plug by B&M (I think) cheep to (I think) that will allow you to use it. A side note only use 4th on flat high way driving, not city/mountins
good luck
i believe it is needed for smooth operation. its actual nomeclature escapes me, but B&M and TCI hace kits to mate it to a non-comp. engine
(this info is TBOMK)
too much:beer: need:zzz: or i'll:skull: i hate finals...

the plug you're referring to is for the torque converter lockup solenoid. the converter will go into lockup in 3rd and 4th above 45 mph as long as a couple of other conditions are met.
lockup has 2 major advantages:
1 lowers your engine rpm's by eliminating all the slippage in the converter ( good for somewhere around 400 rpms ) and thereby giving you better fuel economy.
2 reduces the amount of heat being produced in the trans dramatically since the converter is the hottest part. once it's in lockup mode there is no slippage, so no heat is being produced.
if you plan on driving this rig on the freeway i would install the proper wiring harness (painless makes a good setup for about $120 that's very easy to install).
remember, heat is the automatic tranny's worst enemy!
now have a  , it's FRIDAY!!!!!

Thanks a lot guys, I just looked in jegs and found 3 kits that claim to be for controlling the lockup torgue converter when putting this tranny into non ECU vehicles. B+M and painless are $160 and $125 respectively, TCI's version is $73. I think I will order the TCI kit. Thanks.
