Hi
I've been asked by several folks to tell about wheeling in Russia. I am located in Moscow, Russia. Around Moscow there is not that much of a rock to climb - mostly mud and forest, bog and clay.
Here are some pics from annual Russian large off-road event - "Ladoga Trophy"

I have to say, the lighting and composition on EACH AND EVERY ONE of those photos is Excellent!. Compared to some of the chitty pics a lot of us post of our runs, this looks like a National Geographic photo-shoot!

It makes even the Russian Rednecks look classier than ours!

One thing that always impressed me about Russian designs... they work somehow, but sure manage to look damn ugly while doing it

It's actually a very early KV-1 heavy tank. Probably been there since 1941 or 1942. If you click on the link above you will find tons of fascinating pictures.

Truely awesome pictures. My girlfriend is from Uzbekistan. From the way she talks, those "mud" trails could very well be an everyday road to travel on.

The pictures are awesome. nI enjoy seeing wheeling trips from around the world.

Russian Swamp/Marsh Zuki

Ummm that is not a "Zuki"
That's probably a Trecol, maybe a 3904. Built from a Lada Niva.
The wheels measure 51"x23"

Probably something with a bit of muscle to it, but they had some serious mechanical advantage working in their favor with the rigging they did.

http://around.spb.ru/variety/kv/neva19042002/img/kv1-1-14.jpg

Lets see, double the pulling force for each snatchblock, minus a bit for frictional losses, I see 5 runs on the live line, that be some ass workin there.

I don't understand why the left block is rigged with an extra than the right. That shouldn't work?

Also, the guys are standing in the danger area. If one of those line parts, no legs. Oh well, the Russians aren't known for their concern for personal safety. It looks like there's quite a bit of tension too, those blocks are taught off the ground.

Another think to keep in mind is that after 60 years under water, the tracks have probably seized, as well as the bearings in the roadwheels. And if the gearbox had been left in gear 60 yrs ago, I doubt anyone would be able to shift it to neutral...

There was a picture of the truck used to pull it out. I have no way of posting the pic, however here is the link to the page showing the pic.
http://around.spb.ru/gallery.php?path=/variety/kv/neva17042002&image=10

Also, on one of the pages, it shows a picture of tank and says the wheels were free to roll.
There is a page of links for St. Petersburg. http://around.spb.ru/english/ Scroll down to the links of http://around.spb.ru/gallery.php?path=/variety/kv/neva17042002 and http://around.spb.ru/variety/kv/neva19042002/rcs_index.php . There are two pages of pics about pulling this tank out of the water. My g/f translated it for me and is quite interesting.
