I need to know how to tell if my 10 bolt 86 blazer has the Gov lok in it. Without opening the diff cover. I jacked the rear up and spun one tire, but the other tire spun in the opposite direction. But i read that all Military blazers had locker in rear. I dont have any write up on the way that the Govlok works.

try holding the other tire. If the one you are spinning spins freely without the otherone, no gov-loc.

Turn to full lock and floor it on pavement, if it goes bang and metal parts fly out of the cover then you probably have a gov-loc.

Seriously though, pull the cover, takes 10 minutes and you will know for sure.

Anyone have a link to a write up on The Govlok or a picture of it? I read a article that said it only works when there is a differance of 100 rpm between the two tires. I dont think i can spin one of the tires that fast by hand. If i jacked it up on one side and then tried to take off will that engage the locker or destroy it? I am betting on it being ok doing that by reason of if I'm offroading and lift a tire Im doing the same thing? I am Jeep smart not chevy. But family grew and so did the need to have more room. So don't think because i ask questions i dont know something about wheelin

I found a video of the Gov lok operation. Now i can see why so many people sa it will explode. Like poking a stick in a bike tire going down a hill. something has to give................

Govlocks are POS's, but if you want to know if that's what you have, you need to open your diff. If the carrier just has spider gears in it, then it's open. But if it also has some springs, and clutches in it, then it's govlock.

Anybody ever compared a govlock to an Auburn? It's like comparing apples and oranges... or D30's, and Rockwells.:flipoff2:
