: Aftermarket D44 stuff...
f0cker 09-14-2003, 12:43 PM So there's CTM's and Warn/Superiors for the front, but I haven't seen anyone with stuff for the rear. I searched about info on this, since I'll be running D44's with 36" SXs, but I didn't find anything at all about aftermarket rear shafts. I don't want to pay out the ass either and have a set of custom shafts made for $300- and some odd dollars. What are my choices? (No, I won't go 60 or 14 bolt, I got a screaming deal on these)

Then you might as well stick with stock shafts. Do you think that CTMS and Warn/Superior front axles are cheap? When you are ready to step up check out:
Dutchman (http://www.dutchmanms.com/4_axles.html)
Moser (http://www.moserengineering.com/moser_interior/jeepaxlekits.htm)
Warn (http://products.warn.com/warn.nsf/pages/TruckProducts.Axles.FullFloatHome.html)
Imkunfused 09-14-2003, 01:03 PM Talk to Pig from Poly performance.. I believe superior is making a set of alloy's for the rear 44's now..
crawlinTJ 09-14-2003, 01:25 PM I've heard that Superior is going to release the "Super 44" kit with 33 spline axleshaft lengths/bolt patterns to match other D44s (Waggy, Scout, etc). I ran their factory splined 44 shafts in my TJ D44 and never broke, so am pretty happy with their stuff so far. Only downside may be the locker selection, if they force you to use an ARB or OX only, for us guys that only want a Detroit.
Till then I would say Dutchman. I ran Moser's in my D35C because when I ordered them they told me over the phone (no I don't have specific records, but I know what I heard, allthough it's irreleveant) that they would replace them for free if I broke. Well a few months later I did break one (albeit after a LOT of stress that would have splintered stock shafts much sooner) and they proceeded to tell me the policy was on 30 spline and up only, and they weren't very helpful either (more like tough shit, buy a new one). Granted, from an engineering standpoint making a 27 spline shaft hold up to 4:1 and 33s isn't very easy (or cheap), it was the fact that I was lied to that didn't sit well. Based on that, I won't go with Moser for anything else again.

No, I'll pay that much for something that isn't custom. If I am spending that much $$ on axle shafts, I want something that I can be able to get a spare for, if I were to break one. It would have to be something that wasn't one-off, like a CTM or Warn's.
If Superior is going to come out with some rear shafts, I'll probably get some. I was already planning on getting the other stuff I need from Pig, so that would be nice to get it all from him. Thanks for the info, now I just have to wait for Superior to get that stuff out. :D
Todd W 09-14-2003, 02:48 PM $300 some odd dollars is cheap. Think cheaper than the cost of CTMs for the front... you name high-dollar high quality parts for the front (Warn / CTM) but then when it comes to the rear you say you don't want to spend that much money...
What's the difference if Superior sells "pre-set" sizes than ordering a custom shaft for same/similiar prices??

$185 per joint from Poly Performance. $139 per stub, $209 short, $219 long.
I am willing to pay that much $$ for the rear too, but not if it is a one-off custom part. The difference is that if I get a custom part, then out on the trail if something breaks, I'm out of luck because no one else will have that custom size. When paying for a rear shaft that is in a pre-set size, if I end up running out of spares or something, I can still get out of there with a stock shaft that I get from someone.
Imkunfused 09-14-2003, 04:05 PM As i said.. they should be making a 30spl alloy Semifloat shaft. Either already making or should be out very very soon.. Talk to Pig on the board. I know Rudezuk should be running a set in his comp rig for the next calrocs in a week.

Sweet, I'll PM Pig in a second.

Your logic is baffling to me. What does it matter if the alloy shafts are manufactured in pre-set sizes. The custom shafts are made to the same length as your stock shafts. If the axle remains stock length, then stock replacements can be used as spares, :flipoff2:. If you narrow the axle, the shafts are probably gonna be custom length.:flipoff2:
Any way, if and when a shaft breaks, it's like the lottery to figure out if someone else has a spare for you. Bring your own shaft spares.

zjmikey 09-15-2003, 08:12 AM You could do the Super 44 kit from superior for the D44
you now have 3 locker choices
Detroit
OX
ARB..
33 spline axles.... I would think that would about the stoutest you could get the D44..
