I am searching for a rear axle that will do the job. Early bronco, 39" boggers, Atlas, with 600HP Big Block. Will a D60 be enough? Does a D70 weigh much more than a D60. Dont really want to go 14 bolt but I will have to????

with that engine, you'll want 35 spline shafts, so look for a d70 or the 14 bolt, although a 35 spline 60 should also work. i would stay away from the 31 spline ff 60's, as you have the power to bust those shafts.....hth

Why would you not wanna do a 14 bolt? Just swap on disc brakes and it makes it much lighter, then shave the shit out of it and its a bad ass axle! I know its heavy but I really dont think you can break it.:usa:

Definately the 14 bolt for a number of reasons. Disc brakes are an easy swap, it has big 30 spline axles and detroits are about $300- cheapest there is.

with that kind of hp you will want a 14bolt or a dana70. i like the 14bolts because they are very plentiful and like statd earlier the detroits are cheap. a 35spline d60 would probably work but it would be hard to find one unless you had custom shafts made and why spend all the extra $$$ just do the 70 or 14bolt ( ford stearling 10.25 or 10.50 use 35spline 1.5" shafts too).

Oh you can break it. I have seen 3 broken axle shafts that were from the "big" full floating 14 bolts including an axle shaft that didn't taper at the flange (sone of the 14 bolt axles taper down right before the flange which bolts to the bearing hub)..All axle shafts were broken with a lot less horspower then the estimated 600 you(clc900) have from your big block. You might want to try the search function. There was a lengthy thread about which was better the 14 bolt,70 and ford sterling rear axle a while back. In the end if you are running that much horsepower it will probably be wise to look at custom axle shafts as the shafts in all of the above mentioned axles would possibly break under that kind of power.. hope this helps:D
