Hey guys,

Well after 6 months of hard work, I finally got to put my baby back together. It is the first time I have seen the whole body in one piece since I took it apart back in June. It still is about a month from running, but now It looks like a cruiser. Actually brought a tear to my eye :) I still have to remove a couple of springs from the packs, but it is getting there.

Ok... Now that the pretty comment has been made :flipoff2: Like I have said in the past to others. Since I've spent every Friday and Sat for the last 6-7 month working on this, I had to make it look nice for my wife. I want her to like it and want to drive it too. So for now it is pretty until I can scrape it up :)

Right now, the rig is a 77 with 4.11's (Yeah I changed them Brian) and locked front and rear. The engine is a 350 from a 71 vette with the heads from a early 60's vette. A 750 quadrajet feeds it. It has a 3 speed transfer with an SM420 for gearing. It is sitting 2 1/2" springs SO on Axles cut and turned by none other than Dog Walker with 38.5 SX's for shoes. 4WDB with stainless lines. the Axles were flipped Front and rear also with CV long slips from Jesse. Monday it is going to the Fabricator for a cage that will hold my racing seats while I look at my new dash full of AutoMeter Guages :)

Well, I'm sure there is a lot more, but I can't remember. Who needs a savings account

Shane

OH... it has a set of OEM soft top bows with a new top on the way :flipoff2: :flipoff2: :flipoff2:

Thats looking great. Mine is torn apart now doin the V8, gears, and lockers.
What fender flares did you use in the back? Those look like the right length without completely sawzalling the back apart.

Very nice:beer:

Hey 40_Bones...

Those flares are off of a 99 Wrangler. You have to cut some off the inside portion of the flare but other than that they fit great. I got my set on ebay for 135 bucks for the entire flare set, then sold the front for 80 bucks on ebay. There are great for 55 bucks :) Sorry for the crappy pict: Actually, if my quarters hadn't been cut already, I would have used the Wrangler front flares on the rear. They would fit great and you could cut the rear out straight on the wheel wells all the way to the rear. It would have looked really cool, but like I said my quarters were cut from stock already. Make any sense???

Shane, So what you're saying is, That if you were to use the front flares, you would have cut straight back from the top of the wheel well toward the rear all the way to the back right? See, thats what I'm trying to avoid for street legal issues and also to keep the somewhat stock look to the fender opening. If thats the case I will look for a set of the rears and install them like you have. Will give the clearance I need and still have the rear portion of the flare to "cover" the tire.

Thanks, Brian :D

Bones,

I used to have TJ flares on my '40 before I moved the axle back 4 inches.

If I had done the whole modification and fender trim at once, I would have been able to keep the opening right for the TJ flares.

Right now, in order to clear my rear axle at full compression, I had to cut nearly to the rear of the fender.

I too do not like the complete square cutout.

I am kicking around getting a full set of diamond plate for a non cut Cruiser and opening the fenders toward the rear only.

I had opened them to the front a long time ago and installed FJ-40 flares.

This way I could keep the front of the opening "stock" and just cut out the rear and the TJ flares would still fit.

Right now my opening is too large.

This is my Cruiser with TJ flares when I was SUA

THis is from the side, you can see how wide they are. They looked goofy with my stock axles with 2" spacers, 3" backspaced wheels and 38 x 12.50 SX's.

I bet they would look killer now

So how much longer are the TJ flares than the FJ40 flares?

My rear axel is back 3". The flares that are on it now were mounted farther back than most that I've seen.

Also, I've cut the bottom rear corner so that it's flush with the bottom of the rear doors.

I'm currently running 36x14.5 swampers and only have a minor clearance problem at the back. If I could get just a couple of inches farther toward the rear I think I might even be able to go to 38's when I buy new tires. Plus the material the TJ flares are made of is alot more compliant than the hard plastic FJ40 flares.
(they're all broken)

I just returned from lunch and saw a few TJs the flares did'nt seem to be much if any longer but could'nt measure any driving down the street.

The TJ Flares are about 4 inches longer than the cruiser flares and taller. But make sure you get 97-02 Wrangler flares and not earlier wrangler Flares. The later flares are the bigger ones. Quite a bit bigger actually. You will have no problem fitting 38's with these.

HTH
Shane

BTW... These are stock Wrangler Flares.

Tracknod is off on some crazy worldwide jaunt with his new wife so you won't get an answer from him.

He had found someone that was making the canvas in Florida and was going to get a group buy going.

This is before Eshan from Pakistan came up with the complete factory soft top setup. He is the man!

Email him and you will get all you need.
