I've got an 82 Bronco with 35" Boggers, 302 auto, TTB and a 9" rear. Was thinking about running a mini-spool in the rear. And yes I know the tires will squeal and such.
Was just wondering if anybody has had any experince with one.

As long as its not your daily driver, you really watch it when the roads are slick, and don't care about the tire wear, go for it. Personally, I wouldn't run a spool on the street again but its real doable untill the roads get icy or wet.

I bought the 19 dollar mini spool off Ebay. My EB is a daily driver and is on 35" MTRs. THe only time I really notice the "chirping" is when I try to park in a parking lot. I just purchased the tires (new) and they were not cheap (read college), and with less than 500 miles/ +two trail rides the rears are getting worn down real quick. As for the issues with snow and ice, you will experiance that w/ any non-selectable locker. As soon as I break the 28 spline axles though, I will replace the mini spool with a 31 spline ARB;) .

I dont mind my spool. I only drive it about 3 miles a week (maybe if that) Wet streets are a pain in the ass though. just got to watch when you get on it and turning. If it were a DD i would want some thing selectable.

My old DD was an 82 bronco w/ 35's and a minispool in the rear. Had no problem w it, but can be interesting in the snow. Just take your time, and be careful. Matter of fact I have the 9" rear w/ the minispool and new 4.10s for sale.....matching gears and ez locker in the front too if interested..

Well I have had a mini spool in a 9" and I would not ever waste my money again on a mini, spend the extra few dollars and get a full spool. I bent the hardened pin when I snapped an axel.
I drove my Bronco from WA to the con and back (about 1900 miles) and I don't see any difference in wear from the front SX's to the rear's. The one down fall is snow on the road, but I like the fact that a spool is predictable IE it's always locked unlike a Detroit or similar.

A good friend of mine tried running a spool in his '81 DD last summer. Ended up taking out the TTB pivot bushings and a set of tires in 12 weeks. He drove around 25 miles a day mixed town and highway. The spool just put too much sideways stress on the TTB in turns. The truck was running a 4" lift and 33" tires.

Driving on the street with it sucks. Wears axles out fast also. Its awesome for wheelin but sucks on road. I'll be taking mine back out.

Like EBSteve, I love my full spool, yep I rotate tires more, but I love the predictability of it, and the cost :D

My Bronco has a welded rear at the moment. It sucks on the street. My biggest complaint is just that it pushes hard in corners.
I got used to it chirping tires and such, but I can't get used to 3-pointing it in the drive-thru. Damn Swampers didn't want to break traction on the concrete, and just kept rolling the fronts onto the sidewalls every time I'd try. Damn near ran into the flowerbed. :flipoff2:
