I keep tossing the idea of 2.t tons. Biggest concern is steering for me. I would have a hydraulic setup. But, I do not want to go full hydraulic. Reason being... I cannt run the motor for whatever reason, I do not want to loose steering also.
So, does anyone have any pictures of a mechanical steering setup with 2.5 tons?
Really just concerned with the front.
Thanks

just because you have hydro stering does not mean it won't work with the motor off.. Mine works without the motor running. it isn't great as it is equal to manual steering from any vehicle..

Sorry i can't show you pics, but i assure you that this is easy to do. i have a fj40 with agr PS and no hydro assist, yet. Rockwells are similar in design to a kingpin Dana60, only bigger. there is a bearing cap on each knuckle with 4 9/16" bolts through them. I just got a piece of 1" plate, about 10" long and 5" wide, then drille 4 9/16" holes in it to match the pattern on the bearing cap. Then, I got 4 new, longer, 9/16" bolts, and voila!
the trickier stuff is deciding where to drill the hole in the end of the plate for your draglink attachment. You can make your own decisions about acroman angle and turning radius...
But it is very easy to do.

i did the same thing as elf cruiser, it is easy. i even made a block and then used a flat piece so now i have a decent angle on the draglink with out bump steer. at the same time i added power assist so that i can still have the centering affect which keeps it street legal since it is only an assist. don't get be wrong by using the assist. i still run a 2x8 cylinder and the truck will turn in the grass at idle with 53" military tires (16.00x20) that weigh over 300lbs apiece, not to mention the big block right over them. i can turn it with one finger, truck standing still and it will try to go back to center...though it doesn't make it all the way when the truck isn't moving.
isnt return to centre just as easy to add to a charlyn valvee as any other?
a torsion spring that winds up as you turn away from centre and when you let go pulls the valve to centre
