: Driveshaft U joint angles???

Working on piecing together my front axle, I started looking at the yoke, and trying to figure out about U joint angles and the like for when the axle goes under the truck.

Axle yoke is a 1310 joint. I put the joint (w/ driveshaft attached) in the joke, and noticed something odd. In one direction I can get an angle of about 38 degrees on the shaft in relation to the axle, but the other way I could only get around 20 degrees. Fine, so I did some slight clearancing of the yoke and got it up from 20 to 28 degrees. But from just looking at it, this does not seem like near enough angle, and that under flex (or maybe just under the truck) the joint will be at/near maxed out - not good.

So what kind of angles *should* I be expecting to see the axle yoke and driveshaft capable of?

I know some will tell me to swap the 1310 out for a larger joint size, but will that help the problem - as in are other yokes capable of more travel?

Thanks for any help here...

Thanks Camo, and I do hope Jess find the thread and chimes in.

I think I have a 1350 yoke behind the shop, so I will check it tonight and see what kind of angles I can get out of it.

This may be something I just have to get it all under the truck and see what works, and what doesn't.

okay this is for a dana 44 right? if so the yoke you have is the bast angle 28 max like you have found there for a stock application out of the box- the next step is go custom dana 44 diff to toy flange we make for tacomas - 41 degree with the toy stuff and its near one ton strength - as for 1350 on that axle only 20 degree's max- - if its a dana 60 1410 yoke may get aprox. 28 degree's max- we offer things for those diffs also to run yoda stuff- if you get a chance get us the tube slope and diff angle up and t-case angle back and i'll swing back in and let you know where your sitting- or better yet call- i'd be happy to talk about it even if there's nothing in it for me- JEss :D

I do know the 1350 yoke has less angle capability than the 1310.

Thanks for the help on the phone Jess - I *really* appreciate it.

Basically, I will get the axles under the truck, and see where to go from there :)
