I've got a 9" that I'm putting in and i'm narrowing it and getting custom axles.

If/when I replace my D30 in front, what is the most common bolt pattern for the D44? I don't see getting a D60 for an s-10 front really necessary.

I want to order the right bolt pattern for my rear axles. Well close enough anyhow. I know I should've bought a matching set of d44's but.......I gotta do things my own way, which isn't always the easiest.

Chevy 6X5.5 is the easyest to get by far.

5 on 5 1/2 is on all pre 97 ford 1/2 tons and all pre 87 jeeps so it is also poular. you may even consider the 8 lug pattern as all brands used it in there 3/4 and 1 ton rigs and most still do

looks like 5 on 5.5 is the winner then. Thanks. I'll be ordering the axles next payday.

Jeep 5 on 5.5" is only on CJ's. Full size waggoneers are 6 lug.
It sounds like this is for an S-10 that you have already swapped in a D30 ?
If that is the case & you are not going fullsize width:
1) If you have coil springs, use 5 on 5.5" to match Ford (early Bronco is about the right width).
2) If leaf springs, use 6 lug & '80 or newer Waggoneer front (matches stock width within ~ .5"). Don't get the '83-'84? with vac. disconnect.
Also keep in mind that if your axles are the same width WMS to WMS, and you go to either of these type wheels with ~3.5" backspaceing (compared to stock BS of ~6"), your tires will be ~2.5" further out on each side.
These seem like the best options from the research I've done. Of coarse there are oter ways, depending on what front end you find a deal on.
Good luck,
Wayne

yeah I guess I need to consider the the width of the front vs. the back on the new axle too.

Ok from fender flare to flare is 63" wide. I don't want to stick much more than an inch.

Where does that put me for the 6 lug wagoneer axle? I'll try a search but if anyone has answers that would help.

Well, just to throw some numbers out:
Waggy D44 width = ~60.5"
8"rim w/ 3.5' bs = 4.5' x 2 = 9"
tire bulge = 1" x 2 = 2"
total width = ~71.5"
The Scout II (5 on 5.5") is the narrowest front 44 I know of, but the knuckles need to be cut off & rotated to get a good caster angle. It is a couple inches narrower.
I think the EB 44 is about Scout width, but you would need to cut all the coil spring stuff off & put on leaf spring pads.
Another thing to think about is distance between spring mounts.
There's also the option of a custom width.

You know, it's starting to sound better and better to get the hub conversion kit for the D30.

Is this really that much stronger? I don't plan on competion rock crawling. The previous owner had this D30 on the rubicon. Thats' gotta say something, but I haven't seen the rubicon so I don't really know.

any input is appreciated.
