could you mount a full hydro ram on the front of the axle and a tie rod on the back side of the axle on a rockwell? ive seen some pics of full hydro rams bending and wondering if a tie rod would work to help take stress from large tires

just buy a bigger shafted ram and dont worry about it. :D The pics of bent rams you have seen (probably mine, yellow ram) was caused by the inherant sideloading that the shaft has to take when turning. Beef the shaft up so that it will handle the sideload and its not a problem any more.
Running a tie rod in the back and the ram in the front would probably prolong the life of the ram a little bit. but if its not up to task its eventually going to let go anyway.
FYI my 3/4" shaft DE ram only lasted 4 days before it broke.
OH. I'm assuming that you are talking about a DE ram, since with a SE you have to run a tie rod no matter what.
