: ? for Waggy Spring Gurus
scwafish 12-08-2001, 07:23 PM I like everything I've read about the Rancho 44044s and I'd like to put some under the front of my sami to replace the yj springs to move my axle forward. My 35s are hitting the firewall bigtime...DOH! Unfortunately 44044s have way too much lift.
How do stock waggy springs work, which ones are the ones to get, and how much lift compared to stock yjs? Thanks for your help!
wheelinjp 12-08-2001, 09:06 PM I have 2 pairs of 7leaf packs and I will replace my YJ springs with them. I understand the 5leaf packs common in 4dr wagoneers are a 1.5 to 2in. lift. The 7leaf common in the cherokee chief are a 2.5 to 3in. lift over the yj stock springs in soa form. The 44044s are an aftermarket 4in lift from Rancho so it depends on how much you are looking for.I understand you want to steer clear of the 2leaf packs as they are extremely stiff. I also keep hearing of diff. # of leafs packs like a 4leaf and a 6leaf and I have no experience with those.
scwafish 12-08-2001, 09:20 PM About what year of wagggi are your springs out of? As to lift, I'm looking for what ever is closest to the same lift as a stock yj spring soa, I like the height of my rig as it sits now.
i ran 6leaf pack's out of a 76 cherokee chief (2dr) on the front of my toy, and they worked great! had a slight positive arch and i'd guess 5in of lift on my toy, as i cleared 36in SX's with very minimal rubbing. the 44044's are only a 2.5in lift spring, i'm currently running these with the 5th leaf removed, they sit right about the same height as the stock spring's but work better!
if you're going to use stock's get either the 6 leaf's or the thisn 7's, the thick 7's you wil hate! and don't waste your effort on anything less than 6 leaf's as they're either to stiff, of to flat
hope this helps
also, as a side note, from the understanding i've gotten it's not a great idea to run the same spring's on all 4 corners, the exact definition escapes me as i'm still medicated, but i know it's not a good idea...
oh, and any year 74? to 89 will have what you need, about 80-81ish and newer had a better chance of gettign 7 leaf's :D
scwafish 12-08-2001, 10:32 PM That is some good info...BTW I'm only needing them for the front. This is going to sound retarded but how can you tell the diff between the thick 7 and the thin 7, having never seen either?
Jeepmangled87 12-08-2001, 10:42 PM Lets here more about this topic Im very interested!!:nuke:
tigger4x 12-08-2001, 11:15 PM Dude, you gotta hook up with GOZUKI (gozuki@hotmail.com)! He has done some pretty trick shi@t to his zuk. I never had a good opinon or outlook on what I referred to then as the Suzuki Suicide! I took one small run with Gozuki and my eyes opened to a whole new world! Drop him an email and introduce yourself. He is incredibly busy but sometimes gets a chance to break free. Good luck on your project! Tigger4X
scwafish 12-09-2001, 07:36 AM I bought a suzuki to dodge mc plunger from gozuki last year and it is one of the nicest parts I've ever bought...and it was only $10!!! Hes a really nice guy, I believe he's in the middle of a big swap right now.
tigger4x 12-09-2001, 11:17 AM RIGHT AWWN SCWAFISH!!
Yeah, he is just finishing the tranny/t-case adapter. A few other little goodies to get done and then teardown for final prep. I dunno if you know, but the final install is gonna be a Ranger 4.0 & 5spd w/ Dana 300 on top of DANA60/CORP14! I am itching to get "back home" and get my hands greasy helpin' out.
Drop him an email about your springs. maybe remind him of the part(s) ya got from him and what yer doing now.
TIGGER4X
jslamerman 12-09-2001, 11:48 AM They are right, the only stock spring worth having is the stock seven leaf(thin). You will recognize them, the leafs are thinner than any stock I've seen, comes on all later model waggys. Stay away from all j20, any 3/4 ton springs, too stiff. All 44044 Ranchos are 6 leaf. The stock 5leaf stuff ends up with a negative arch in one four wheeling outing, if they didn't already star that way!! Good luck!!
scwafish 12-09-2001, 08:52 PM Thanks for the info...off to Pick-n-Pull:)

Hey SCWAFISH! What are you doing for axles these days?? I just talked to Gozuki on the phone and told him that you're gonna more than likely be emailing him. He is gonna be working on the new front axle and the Dana60 rear, soooo... he is gonna have the :eek:BADA$$ front and rear up for sale. YOu gotta talk to him about these before somebody else snaps 'em up!! If I had a Zuki I would GET 'EM and then GET IT!! :D
scwafish 12-10-2001, 07:12 AM Tigger- I've got my axles done...I am running an Allpro D44 hybrid with a fj80 high pinion in front and an 88 toy rear. Detroits and 5.29s in both ends. Not a 60, but it should be pretty beefy with a zux motor. Whats he gonna sell?
tigger4x 12-10-2001, 08:42 PM :eek:Sounds like you spent some $$$... no sense going back now!
Enjoy the fun and GET SOME!!
scwafish 12-10-2001, 08:58 PM Actually scrounged a lot of the parts, except the Allpro housing and the PM knuckles...I got my fj-80 hipinion for $50!!!!
RockRanger 12-10-2001, 09:21 PM Do you have any pictures or information on the adapter that is being used to mate the dana 300 to the ranger? I would be interested in some details about that part. Who is making it? What is the price on it?
Matt
tigger4x 12-10-2001, 10:35 PM ROCKRANGER ... My buddy is a welder/machinist/fabricator for an aerospace company. He is doing this on his own time. He MIGHT make one up for you but it would only be the second one made. I personally have NO DOUBTS about anything he has made though. We did a full swap of motor, tranny, t-case, power steering, custom shackles, mounts, and longer springs in one run of upgrades... then he took it on the trails(I thnk it was the Hammers) and came back with NO BREAKAGE!! If you are seriously interested lemme know. I'll do what I can to see if he has the time to pull it off. Like I said, he does this on his time which is sparse at best.
SCWAFISH ... RIGHT AWWWWN! Always more than one way to skin a cat! And more ways to cook 'em up!!
"Missing your cat? Check my Boggers!" :p
RockRanger 12-10-2001, 10:59 PM I would be interested. The reason I ask is rangers use a screwy 5 bolt pattern and 25 spline shaft between the tranny and t case. I know dana 300's use the six bolt which is also shared by many other t cases out there. I am just playing with ideas on trying to gear my truck geared lower but still drive on the highway. If you could get any details on this it would be great. dependng on what all is involved in it and the cost. I am just a poor college student so more just looking for ideas and dreams for down the road some time.
Matt
tigger4x 12-10-2001, 11:02 PM If & when you really wanna put the DANA300 behind your tranny ... lemme know. My buddy is too busy just for dreamin'. It is not a matter of IF he is gonna do this or not OR IF it will work. It is a matter of how soon we can get it torn apart and installed! :D
