Anyone else ever done this? I splite the horizontal piece in two places. TWO!

I guess it didn't like the force of a shocke mount welded to it. Oh well.

Does anyone know where I could source 5 inch pipe with a 1" wall? I can get them in aluminum, but I need steel to. I need to slice it up for a new shock mount design!

No pics since it happened on the way to work. Actually failed in a SEVERE panic stop on road with a pot hole in the way.

Glad you're OK. I'm assuming the perch tore where the bolts go through to hold the spring in place?

As for stock, try onlinemetals.com. Sometimes expensive, but the service is great.

Ouch, glad you're OK. Seems sizing shock mounts is a more serious business than I anticipated. How did you do your second generation mount? Did it crack in a weld?

Nope.

Split the bend on the aft side of the perch at the point where it bends from vertical to horizontal, and in the middle on the frame side, essentially in the middle of the perch. So both a lateral split and a vertical break.

I am just going to weld the seams/breaks and re-inforce it for temporary.

WOW, scary stuff, glad your still in one piece.

Just wondering how fast you were going and what the truck did as a result of the breakage?
