Alright, I have a project due in my Manufacturing Processes class about the metal casting process. Here is the situation:
A company in South America is producing gray cast iron pipe using the sand casting process (use of an internal core supported by chaplets). I am supposed to compare this "old" process with implementing a centrifugal casting process to produce the pipe. Basically, I need the amount of labor hours to fabricate and set-up a sand mold and the cost of materials to make that mold, the cost of a new horizontal centrifugal casting machine, the cost of maintaining and running that machine, and the labor hours to produce a pipe using the centrifugal casting machine.
The questions may seem rather vague, but some "ball park" numbers will work. Or, if someone could point me in the right direction as far as references, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks.
Matt
