Hi, for some time I've been searching forn the answer on this question: will the crownwheel of my 110/127 LR fit the internal diff carrier of my 109 LR. So can you interchange the crownwheels or is the diameter different or the holes in the wrong place? Any info welcome.

I might have miss understood the question but:

I took a ring and pinion and carrier from a Defender 110 rear Sals and installed it into a 109 rear Sals case.

I also know that you can use any dana 60 R&P, you just need to use a Jeep drive flange on the pinion because the splines are different. The Jeep uses the same bolt pattern for the flange as Defenders and Series rigs.

Sals trivia (dont know if other rover axles are like this)- the short side axle shaft is the same length between leaf and coiler Salsburies. Only the long shaft is different length.

Thx. The whole unit will fit but my question is will the crownwheel of my 127 fit the diff carrier of the 109. I do have a locking diff on my 109 and would like to fit it into my 127. However not with the low Series 3 ratio of 4.7

Ahh, yes the ring gear and carriers are the same.

But wait! I'm standing here in the shop looking at two carriers one a Series 4.7 and one a D110 3.55 the carrier of the 110 has about a quarter inch difference in offset towards the outside of the axle housing.. This would make sense as the pinion on the 3.55 gears would be at least that much bigger in diameter. The ring gear thickness is about the same between the gearsets.
So if you swap your 3.55 ring/crown wheel onto your series locking diff the ring gear will be 1/4" too far away from the pinion to engage properly.. I think the break is the same as the Dana 60 4:10 and down for the fast carrier and 4.56 and up for th slow carrier...

Thx......so re your post it will not fit/interchange properly?

It appears that the break point is like the dana so gears would go: 4:10 and numerically lower will fit the fast carrier like what's in a 110... Gears numerically taller than that will fit the carrier that's in the series... Now Detroit Lockers for Salisbury's fit either carrier as they fit inside the factory carrier like a 14 bolt....

No problem, I expeted it to be 'not possible' and hoped to find the answer without having to open up both axles. Might do that anyway some time in future.
