As mentioned in the weekend report, I tried to remove the clutch/brake pedal assembly and linkage from a 72 scout without any luck. I thought it was supposed to be pretty simple to get the pedals out. There seems to be a bolt permanently affixed to the clutch pedal that passes through the brake pedal and is secured by a nut on the right side of the assembly. After removing the nut, I still can't get the bolt out. Am I missing something? do I have to get that linkage of of the bolt before it'll come out? Do I have to take the whole damn assembly out which appears to require removing the windshield and all? I know this is a newb question and I know I could find it in a search on the BB, but it's down. Help a brotha out.

Hmm, it's been awhile since I pulled mine. Have you pulled the column, I cannot remember if that was required. There are also a couple of bolts on the engine side of the firewall. Plus the master cylinder needs to be pulled. Other then that it should come out fairly easy. I don't see why you would need to pull the windshield frame.

It's been bout 15 years since I did mine, but, IIRC, I had to bend a bracket on the donor rig to get a bolt out and then installed it from the other direction in mine.

I removed the bolts going through the firewall. It looked like the steering column was bolted to the same bracket and it also looked like there were some bolts coming down through the cowl. So when yall did it you did take the whole bracket, correct?

Yup the entire bracket, mucho easier then swapping pedals around.

Cool, the plan was to try again next weekend, but if I don't have to pull the windshield, I might try to get over there sometime this week. Thanks guys.

On my '77 Traveler, to swap it from an auto to a stick I had to swap the entire pedal assemblies. On both my parts truck and the runner I already had the dashboard removed. From there it took me 30 minutes to swap pedal assemblies. Unbolt master cylinder, undo 6? firewall bolts/studs, unbolt two large bolts from steering column and let it drop down to seat or floor. Two more nuts up top (they are on studs, no removing WS), and as long as you have the little shit out of the way (brake actuator rod, wiring, speedo cable) it slides right out.

Just weld the clutch pedal to the brake pedal and have an extra large BRAKE!

jacking of thread,

Sean where the hell have you been? You have to have some pictures of your scout on the trails in the newest form...or just a recent, like in the past month recent, picture of your scout.

if you have anytime in the winter to come down south to tellico, gaurdrail, windrock...let me know, i would love to finally get to ride the trails in my scout following yours.

Yeah, sorry. Been working with Sports-in-the-Rough for the past month putting on events from Oklahoma to Johnson Valley to Monroe, LA. Just got back yesterday from Monroe to find out that the motor I had for my Scout got reclaimed by it's original owner. It seems while I was in California he just changed his mind. SOO, still trying to put another motor in her since I blew another one after the 4th of July. I got some pics but my subscrip at Montypics is out so I guess I need to just crack down and buy a star. Next event hopefully will be Superlift 4xAdventure in Hot Springs, AR in Oct.
