: NP 205 rebuild how-to?

I'm getting ready to rebuild a divorced NP 205, which is part of a conversion to change a Blazer (kinda) from a smallblock, 350 and 203, to an Olds 455, THM400 and 205.

I have a complete gasket and bearing kit, plus a parts 'case, but most of my manuals aren't exactly detailed disassembly/reassembly guides.

Step 1: Remove internals.

Step 2: Press out bearings.

Step 3: Press new bearings in.

Step 4: Press in new seals.

Step 5: Reinstall internals.

And so on. I'm no dummy, but I'd prefer to be a bit better informed once it comes time to put this badboy back together. In particular any tricks to getting the shifter detent "pills" back in with a minimum of fuss- and preferably correctly- would be greatly appreciated.

So, can anyone point me to a good online resource that details some or all of a 205 rebuild?

Doc.

Also, where can I get larger (1350?) input and output yokes for a 205?

I'm assuming such things are made and they're a fairly straightforward bolt-on? (Meaning I don't have to machine anything?)

I plan on getting quite a bit of torque out of the 455- hopefully better than 550 ft/lb- so I should probably use as stron a yoke and U-joint as possible.

Thanks.

I don't know about the rebuild but the yokes are easy. Take em all off count the splines measure the diameter and go to the driveline shop. If you don't have one of those local talk to onetoncv, he will set you up. I have close to this setup. A divorced 205 with 1350 outputs and 1310 input. I have not yet managed to break any of them even with my 472 cad engine. And yes it puts out well over 500 lb ft. Anyway good luck.

Thanks, but who's onetoncv and how do I get ahold of him?

And nobody has any online info on the rebuilding of a 205 transfer case?

At the top of the page click on "members" and find him in the list. It is Jessy from High angle driveline

I think it's impossivle to screw up a 205 rebuild. Just put it back to gether opposite of how you pulled it appart. It was my first rebuild and she's still good. I did find some good exploded diagrams and instructions at my library. Just get in there and get dirty.

Well, '76, that's part of my problem. The divorced case had been full of water at one time or another, and several gears inside are rusted. I located a parts/partially disassembled married 205 in order to get clean gears.

I had some difficulty with disassembling the divorced case- some things didn't want to slide easily with a touch of rust on a shaft- and now it's been some six months since I did so.

Yes, the thing's pretty straightforward and I'm sure I can figure it out eventually, I would simply prefer to jump back in, especially with having to mix-and-match parts from two cases, being pre-armed with some better how-to information and/or maybe some tricks experienced people have come up with.

Ahhh I see your predicament. The info I found at the library was way helpful and the diagrams were good too.

HIGH ANGLE DRIVELINE (www.highangledriveline.com) 530-877-2875. I believe it is in Placerville, CA. Also reiterating the wealth of info at your local library. You can also try the GOOGLE (www.google.com) website. Type in a description and Google will find it. Another good one to try is the DOGPILE (www.dogpile.com) website. It is a search engine of search engines and finds a ton of info in one whack!
