I bought a SYE and 4:1 used and they didnot come with instructions or a brand name. It was a year ago or 2 so I dont even remember the guys names.
Here are some pic's. You might have to cut and paste the URL into a new browser for it to work.
Thanks.
PS also I a trying to put this into a 2000 xj with an NP231, is there any diferences between the older 231 and this one that might prevent installing these items???

Looks like the planetaries off of a NP case. Could very well be a 4.1, i dont really remember what my Teralow planetary looked like when i got mine.
But that is diff. an SYE. Looks like a 241 conversion kit.

I'd say you have what you bought; definitely an SYE and 4:1. the stock planateries only have 3 sun gears while the 4:1's have all 6.
you should be able to install it into you case w/ no probs (clean the rust first); the input gears can be different but the inside part of the gear is not, should work dandy....:D

Im thinking the 4:1 is eather JB or Tera. I think tera.
The SYE I have no idea. Also anyone know if I need gaskets
or just atv. The case only has 30K on it so far?

I just took my tera kit apart, and loks exactly like yours. I had a 21 splien from a XJ. Make sure th front spline count is 23 splines. I believ that newer XJ's havea trany that has a 23 splines output shaft. I had to send mine to Tera to be chanegs because mine was 21 (older XJ), and my Jeep needs 23 splines. Again, since thsi is an old setup, count and make sure teh spline count will match your transmission. Tera Manufacturing is really cool, and and I only had to ship teh front half of the case,a nd tehy will replace it with a 23 spline. I am expecting it back by the end of this week :) sweet!
The SYE you got looks like a Advanced Adapters. Have fun, and the isntallation is easy. If the Transfer case is out, it should take you less tahn an hour to have it all done. Use Blue RTV and you are set. Make sure you also use a good amount of RTV between the front of the 231 and the transmission. I had a few buddies that forgot about this ( I almost did last time :)
Good luck!

Hi Todd,
Hey, did u get your front half painted from Tera or you did it yourself? What did u use? Did u sell yours? I ended up taking mine apart and sending the front half to Tera for a spline change (21 to 23).
If you have not sold yours, let me know. I have anotehr Jeep project just starting!

I might be having a brain fart here but you should not have to take your whole case down to put in the planataries.
to change the input gear yes, but not for the planataries. if your installing the 4:1 into the case that's currently bolted to your rig leave the case bolted to the tranny, and take the back half down. you will have a few snap rings to fight with but thats about it...
BTW, it doesn't really matter who manufactured either, they all go in the same.
