: Gasket Surface vs paint

I'm looking at painting a couple of parts that have gasket surfaces.

Should the gasket surfaces have no paint on them or does it matter?

Will dry paint effect the ability of a form-a-gasket to stick?

I'm specifically looking at things like transmission tops, PTO ports, etc.

TIA,
John

just sand the paint off in those areas or tape em off. its only a few extra minutes to do and its safer since i dont really know the answer..but logically..it CANT help the seal any...can it?

no i wouldnt paint them, cuz if the paint would peel or come loose some how, then it would leak.
mask it, or sand the paint off like DCruiser said

Your answers are what I expected.... but after pulling some parts apart and seeing paint on some of the surfaces, I wasn't dead sure.

And now it is clear on some of the leaks I've had in the past:p
