: How strong is the zuk t-case.
falcotim 09-23-2003, 01:42 PM I am thinking of putting a buick v-6 backed by a 2wd th350 tranny in front of my zuk t-case. I will be running 35-38" tires and 3/4 ton axles, and I was just wondering what you guys think. With aftermarket deep gears, do you think that the zuk t-case would hold up to this kind of strain?
NC Zuk 09-23-2003, 01:44 PM Oh, without a doubt!! These things are bulletproof. Just do it and sit back and enjoy the thing. Best of luck!!!
Non Urban 09-23-2003, 01:46 PM It will be fine. Let us know how the install goes.....:D
falcotim 09-23-2003, 01:54 PM Yes, will keep you posted. OOOH, this is fun!
rabidray 09-23-2003, 02:53 PM be sure to post lots of pics of your exsploded t/c.......
we want to know how many times you got on it before it scattered all over gods green earth.......
you might be ok if you dont hit it with to much torque but i suspect it will be gone too the four winds fairly soon
Crab Bait 09-23-2003, 03:03 PM The EPA might give your rig a 'HAZARD TO THE ENVIRONMENT' STICKER! ;)
Shrock 09-23-2003, 04:28 PM What kind of power does the Buick V6 make?
We know the Sammi case can sit behind a doubler and a 120HP engine in a light rig. on 37's hammering it, so say about 200ft-lbs input to the tcase.
That engine is probably pretty heavy though...38 swampers are heavy.
If the engine is like 170ft-lbs or so and you stay toward the lower end of your tire size, it might work out.
I'd concur with the smart asses though and recommend something beefier. Since you haven't built it yet, might as well build it to take all the abuse you can throw at it.
Has everyone forgotten there manners?
Welcome newbie :flipoff2: :flipoff2:

Grumpy... 09-23-2003, 06:46 PM I have a 1.6 with a cam, webber, header etc... Dana44's running 35 boggers and 6.5:1 t-case gears and 3.07 in the axels.(soon to change)It took 10 min on the first run with it to twist the case mounts. I then beefed those up for the next run. On that run it took 1 hour before I ripped the long arm side of the case apart. The short arm was the only thing holding it to the frame. Hope this helps.
Non Urban 09-23-2003, 07:21 PM You all are missing the point. Let the newb grenade the case. It will make for good reading later.......:D
falcotim 09-23-2003, 09:31 PM Okay, so what t-case would yall suggest? This engine is supposed to be putting out close to 300 lbs of torque. (or more) It's a heavily built 225, and stock they put out 200 lbs of torque. Dana 20, 300, or what? Oh, and thanks for the hello's!:flipoff2: I already have the engine in, same with transmission. Looks like I need to go find a 4wd turbo 350 transmission. easy enough!
zuk88 09-23-2003, 09:47 PM Atlas or a 300 would be OK
Rudezuk 09-23-2003, 09:54 PM I would higly suggest against it......
I just found out tonight that i cracked the hell out of my tcase...
Had to steel ambers case tonight to put in for supercrawl (we leave tomorrow!!)
samiguy 09-24-2003, 03:24 AM has anyone with the "bucket" style skid/mount broken their case yet? Or is it just the guys that think spending $189 is stupid.:flipoff2:

the bucket would not have saved mine!
Shrock 09-24-2003, 08:14 AM You might want to post this in general too since most of us here are not accustomed to 300ft-lb's .... or even half that. :D
tdavis 09-24-2003, 08:36 AM Hmm... One more reason for the RingR, toy tranny & toy tcase! :D
rabidray 09-25-2003, 05:58 PM i bought one before i installed my grs I .....
ive definently broke some thing in my drive train but i dont know what just yet.......
i dont even wanna look at it ......i heard gears clashing and i dont thik it was the rear end.........
ill cool off for a few days and then take a long hard look at it......
tipover 09-26-2003, 06:13 PM Mine can handle it!

I guess you haven't seen this? ;)

samiguy 09-27-2003, 05:16 AM I wish that was around when I cut my cross member out. I built a beefy trans mount from the trans to the drivers side frame, leaving the passenger side of the cross member out. Plenty of room for the driveshaft now.
JPzmog 09-29-2003, 08:37 PM Hey Randy,
Anyone else in here had a problem with the front output syncro? I did the washer trick and so far so good. I won't be able to tell til I get the Zuk off level ground and on a nice rock incline. I also blew the left birfield that weekend. That's all been put back and I changed the tie rod. I think I may have a little too much toe in, it won't steer left or right when front is locked. It's a battle, even with my good arm:D

Prove it. Give the Newbie one, and tell him to try and break it. I bet it dies. the case might be nice and strong, but you still have small internals.
300 ft lbs at the motor doubled with the torque converter equals death to the driveline's weakest point. (If the rest of the vehicle works..)

tipover 09-29-2003, 10:39 PM I really have nothing to prove to you. If you can make it, you can break it! But mine has the best chance of surviving for a sammy case.
NC Zuk 09-30-2003, 03:52 AM Doesn't Godzuki have a sammi t-case behind that 4.3 and hooked up to the Rockwell axles?
Are we gonna eat our words here?
falcotim 09-30-2003, 03:15 PM After yet more consideration, I have furthered my decision to go with a married t-case. I still haven't decided what t-case to go with, though. And since my rear end is centered diff, I figure this is all for the best. I don't like breaking things, I like building them so that they won't break. Except it seems that breakage is inevitable, no matter how strong you build it. :)
671ZUK 09-30-2003, 03:32 PM What about going with a divorced toy case? They live behind V8 power. OTT has the adapter.
falcotim 09-30-2003, 08:51 PM Never heard of OTT, who are they?
