I am looking at selling my current Jeep in favor of picking up a good lookin' Dodge.

Its a 1995 Dodge Ram 1/2 ton. new 318, new clutch, 5spd, 6" lift, 35" swampers :D, flowmaster and K&N filter. He is asking $10500 O.B.O..

I really like the fact that it has the standard tranny. I am having a tough time finding trucks like this that are standard. I have heard some bad things about the Dodge transmissions. Whats the verdict on this one? Is this a good deal? Anyone know what gears it might have in it? Axles? What should I offer the guy? Thanks for any, and all help

Gonna have the D44 up front with CAD and fixed hubs, rear Chrysler 9.25". Both strap style u-joint on the axle yokes. Most likely gear ratio is 3.55 unless changed. 3.21 and 3.92 were options. Build stick should be under the hood behind the grill (literally bottom side of hood) and will show factory installed gear ratio.

Good low first gear in manual. Wouldn't worry about the manual. If it were an automatic, then I'd have it checked. T-case is NP231HD with 2.72 low range.

No one makes a 6" lift for a 1/2 ton late model Ram that I know of. Check to be sure of the actual lift height and manufacturer. 5" is the largest 1/2 ton lift on the market unless its a custom job. Cepek may have had one, but I think it was a 3/4+ ton version.

That seems like a fair price if it is in good shape with average miles on it.

All right, cool. I am unsure of milage, but I am gonna call him tomorrow. I will ask him what brand suspension he has on it. I looked, and couldnt find a 6" anywhere. I hope its not blocks or some shit :mad: .

How many locker options are there for the 9.25"?
How many miles does a typical 318 go? This is a recent rebuild, thats why I am asking.

Well, my dad had 225,000 miles on his 1979 318 (1/2T 4x2) until he sold it and it was never rebuilt....never even had the intake off, and the guy he sold it to is still driving it.

There is a full Detroit C-locker available for the rear, but no ARB. I wouldn't even bother checking for the lunchbox variety. In ca. '79 I put a set of valve stem seals on a '67 pickup 318 that was well over 250,000 miles and had NEVER BEEN TOUCHED except for plugs and points, and hosing the dirt out of the carb occasionally. Best part is that after it got the new valve stem seals it stopped using oil (less than a quart per 3000 miles). To answer your question, I don't know how long they'll go but it's an awful lot. Probably about as much as the old Chrysler flathead I-6 industrial.

I run the Detroit C-Locker in my 1500. Its nice, works great. Swapped it in with my 4.56's. No other full case lockers that I know of. PowerTrax seems to the "lunch box" of choice though for the rear.
