: Tilit wheel/Ignition

My friggen key keeps getting stuck in the ignition of my suburban....It won't even turn to shut the truck off......My trucks in the parking garage right now, only stopped because I yanked out the fuse for the ECM.

I think it has to do with my tilt steer being loose, but when I pulled apart the column last weekend, I only got so far because I was missing the correct Torx driver (stupid torx BS...) While I had it apart I noticed that not only is the steering shaft loose side-to-side, but in and out too....

Is the whole shaft stuck? If so, will one from an 87 Blazer work? (I have a 91 suburban.) Or could it be my ignition and the tilt steer are both shot?

****I posted this in the Chevy forum, but it's kind of an emergency, my key is constantly in my ignition in the "drive" position

Most likely the bolts that hold the tilt part to the rest of the column are loose. To tighten them you have to take just about everything behind it off so you can swap in a new ign. switch then if you want. First you need to remove the lock-plate (special tool helps) than just start tearing everything else off. When you get down to the tilt part you need to remove the pins it piviots on with a slide hammer and a screw. While you are in there check and see if the bearings are shot (mine on my 71 K5 were and I had to replace it with a metric bearing...but the ones in my 87 s10 were fine when I tore into it).
