They look pretty good, similar to a MTR.
I was wondering how soft, how durable, cost, and sizes.

You got a better shot of the tread? Looks lilke it could be decent if the tread blocks have some space between 'em.

That sidewall "tread" is definitely mallcruzer bait.

I kinda like the tread patter, reminds me of a Krawler. Anywhere with a size and price listing online?

everything NITTO makes is expensive. I would also like to find out sizes and prices maybe some 37-12.50-17s would be nice for my tow rig. anyone know when fourwheel parts will have their buy three get one free deal?

I was thinking the same thing till I read 14 bolt and a 60 with a big block. sounds like a mud rig.

I think I saw them in some rap video on BET the other day.:flipoff2: If your choice is between those and the parnellis in the background I'd take the parnellis.

Mud.
It's what you run when the Mall is closed. :flipoff2:

The nitto tread looks like it *might* work on dry surfaces/rocks. If the tread compound is soft.... dunno. Tread blocks Look a little 'close together' to me, but maybe you could groove 'em a little better?

I run the TerraGrapplers on my tow rig, VERY happy with them, and they were not expensive. seem to have a nice compound, flex well, sidewalls seem pretty tough, wear great, and quiet. But, this is only on a tow rig....

I am interested in the MudGrapplers too, wish we had more info.

i think i read somewhere they are only going to be available in something like a 38x14 for a 18" rim.

WHy does the one on the left in the pic not have the "reptile skin" on the side wall? Same tire as the one on the right

so you are telling us they are only going to make one size tire and for one wheel combo. sounds like the o,l marketing department isnt to brite. you must work for them to have all your knowledge.

Bringing this back TTT to see if anyone has any new info on the Mud Grappler. I did a search and it turned up this thread and another that turned into a rim size debate but neither really had any first-person testimony about this tire. Nitto's website lists Discount Tire as the only retailer, and Discount's website doesn't list the Mud Grappler yet. Any new info on whether they intend to offer it in a size that people actually have rims to fit? Seems like a pretty shitty marketing move to only offer it in a wheel size that will force anyone who buys them to also buy a new set of rare (and therefore pricey) wheels. Its a good looking tire though and I wonder it it will actually get good reviews by real wheelers or if is doomed to follow in the footsteps of the disco truck darling Mickey Thomspons that every mall rig had a few years ago just because the sidewall treads looked bitchin on the grocery getters.

If Nitto would give them away like Interco, GY, and BFG does, they would instantly become the new greatest tire in the world.

Or you can get a 40" for a 22" wheel.

TTT

I know this is a fawking old thread but this is all the search comes up with.

Any new reviews on these? They now have them for 15,16, and 17" rims. They have a 38 x 14.50 x 16 that looks appealing. Cheap too at only $220.

Where can I find a list of sizes?

pmaddy
05-01-2005, 07:20 AM
A buddy of mine just put a set of these on his F250 tow rig. 37 inchers on an 18 inch rim. He doesn't wheel it but I can tell you these are real loud on the pavement. The tread pattern is much shallower then a BFG Krawler or a 42 inch Irok. They look real nice.

Curious to hear from someone who has wheeled them.

The only experience that I have is with the Mud Grappler (37x13.50x17) at Moab. It works great on the slick rock, extremelly noisy on the road.

Where'd ya see those ones for 16"s? I can't seem to find any.

Discount tire direct has the 38x14.5x16 for $220. Also they has some 15" sizes as well. 38x15.5x15's.

Do they have any 35"s or 37"s for a 16" rim?

Those 35x14.50x16 would be perfect for what I want, but $292 at NTW?That seems high. They do look awsome.

4x4Poet
05-10-2005, 10:57 PM
FWIW, I like them. I wish NTW had load range info by letter, though among the 35 inchers, the 15" rim model looks to be a load range C, while the 16" model is prolly load range D. The 21/32" tread depth is a good compromise between streetability and off-road prowess.

The 35x14.50x15 is just shy of 35", but the 35-14.50x16 is over 35", so they could have gotten away with calling it a 36" tire. That would have been no worse marketing than many other companies.

I don't know how I would fit 14.50s on my Cruiser without wheel spacers, which I make all efforts to avoid. Since I want to run pneumatic bead locks, I'm stuck with the 15" or 16" sizes. The rim recommendation is 10-12". Too wide for my K20 burb, too. For it I need a narrower tire for towing stability which I can just throw chains on if off road in the snow or muck. Maybe one of the taller rim versions if I don't run pneumatic bead locks on the burb. Just thinking out loud.:grinpimp:

I noticed that this thread doesn't have Nitto's site info for Mud Grapplers (http://www.nittotire.com/tires_mudgrappler.asp). Note this info from Nitto's Features Page (http://www.nittotire.com/tires_mudgrappler_features.asp): 3-ply casing (sidewall) like BFG AT/MTs. Tread has 2-ply nylon belts topped with 2 steel belts. Sounds like a strong radial but not a super tough tire. Still, that 14.50 width would be some serious flotation, hopefully not at the expense of traction.

I have seen a couple sets of the Mud Grapplers at a local Discount tire. 2 sets of bling (35x12.5x20 & 37x13.5x20) and I have seen a set of the 37x12.5x17's. The tread blocks have a pretty good spacing and the compound seems somewhat soft kind of like a MTR. I am very interested in this tire and am waiting to see some trail reports from them. I think they will be a pretty good tire. The seem to be a mix of an Krawler and MTR almost. If the road life is ok or I get a towrig and trailer I might pick a set of these up sometime.

I hope they come out with them in some more real world sizes and not all the rapper bling bling sizes.

Anybody got a set of 38x14.50x16's? There cheap for the size and Im intriuged...

I want to know how big they really are, if there true size doubtfull, if there running small this could be good.

C'mon, a 38x14.50x16 for $220 in a decent mud pattern and a radial and nobody is running them? Whats wrong with em?

I need more treadlife input. I have heard 30k+ and some at less, whats a more realistic bet?
