I am in need of a fuel sending unit for my 63 FJ 45. Anyone have one available out of a 58 to 67 FJ40 or 45? Certainly appreciate it.

I would search on the for sale section and post something in the wanted adds as well.

Thanks Rico. Appreciate the guidance. As you can see, I've been a member for two days.

If you dont find it you might try switching your gauge to a 73ish one and your sender to the same.

Thanks Dave. I have been told the later senders had a larger diameter and would not fit in the hole in my tank. If I understand you correctly, the difference is slight and can be "overcome". How about the screw holes? Will it mount the same as my earlier model? With respect to the guage, do I need the later one because it is calibrated to a different level of resistance and won't read accurately? And finally, I have heard that the later tanks were smaller (maybe two gallons) and of a lower profile. I wonder how the 73 float arm will read in the presumably larger (deeper?) tank.

Tanks a lot :-)

You got me on this one. I have no idea of the early tank size or sender hols size. I have not done this.I would bet that the early sender would work with a later gauge, I think most do interchange. You might be able to get what you have rebuilt. Contact John H, I think he eas some old 40 info that may answer your question. It may come down to replacing the tank or having a newer tank sender hole portion welded into you tank.

Thanks Medusa. But I believe I need a '65 or earlier. At least that 's how Specter Offroad lists it. Appreciate the offer, tho

Yeah Ray, get that taken care of would ya! It's a sad day when ya have to syphon gas out of some poor sod's rig on Deer Valley Trail just 'cos you don't know if there's gas in your tank :D

Cheers,

Andy

But Andy, I find I save on gas that way. Just have to pick a different sod each time...

Good to hear from you

Just to finish out this thread, I found a brand new fuel sender for the 63 FJ 45 at TLC in Van Nuys. Scott, their parts guy emailed me to let me know they had one. When I called to order it I asked where the hell he got it and he told me that Toyota still makes it for another application, which he would not disclose. Apparently someone in their shop matched them up some time ago and they order them for all their restorations. Anyway, it's so nice to take a part off the unobtainium list, isn't it? I'm back on the road with a full tank. Thank all of you for your recommendations.
