Ok, so I have these tage toa CJ2A, and I am picking up a cruiser soon. I wanna register the cruiser as a 2A so that I don't have to deal with SMog. Can this be done? I can cutr the old tags off, and replace them with the 2A tags, but then what avbout the frame? I can't just make #'s for the frame, or did a 1949 CJ2A even have #'s on the frame? Has anyone done this?

Dont worry about it Dimitri, think about all the people who put s10 bodys on a 73 frame, with a 92 engine, if they have any questions just tell them you built it from scratch.

I have a CJ 2A on a 1992 Jeep YJ frame
I would think that it would be OK as long as you made at least some attempt to put Willys parts on there......like graft in a Willys grille or something
then you could say "well, the Jeep body rusted out so I used this Japanese Jeep replica I had lying around............"

:rasta: '74 jeep as a '55 willys, just replaced the rusted body.......:p the DMV guy came out for about 5 min. and said "not much left of this one..."

Does a Willy's have a # stamped into the frame? If so, is it the same as the Body #? I have the data plate, but that is it.

You better pull off every tag that says it is a toyota landcruiser. I think you would have better luck trying to pass it off as a cj

it is probably fraud if you get caught

good luck.

Why don't you just find a smog exempt cruiser title. and sell the flat fender title. You could even come out ahead on the deal.

Dimitri, interested in selling the CJ2A tags? I have a CJ7 that I need to "restore."

I will sell the tags for the right price. E-mail me and we can talk. I would ideally like to trade fro some pre smog cruiser tags.

John C,
I've got a 55 Willys tag and non-op, its yours for 250
Craig.
Pager 1-888-566-1856
may even have plates...

Dimi,
I've never seen any Jeeep w/ numbers on the frame.
I have seen people who have done what you're thinkin and they use the firewall tag and some have added stamps to the frame too.
You can do all the paperwork and have any peace officer sign that the VIN matches the registration, (easy if you got a cop friend) but if your doin the fraud thing you can forge that too - like many do for "fix it tickets"...

while there are no "tags" on the cj frames, guaranteed! there are
frame numbers stamped into the frame! I just verified my 86 cj7
frame. the only numbers I found were stamped into the top of
the passenger-side frame rail above the rear axle centerline.

Hey if anyone wants to do a legitamate swap on an EB I have a 72 frame title and all the tags. In California the title is supposed to go with the frame if you do a body swap so this would keep you within the leter of the law. I wouldn't want to condone any illegal activity in this public forum. $200 seems like the going rate.

Some of the early jeeps have the serial no stamped on the top of the frame, above the rear hanger of the passenger front spring. My 83 CJ7 had the no stamped on the top of the frame, above the rear axle on the passenger side. If you belong to AAA, you can do all of the DMV bs at AAA, they are usually more clueless than the DMV and are usually a bunch of old ladies who dont know the difference between a tlc and a jeep. thats how I have a '70 CJ7.

My 3B has the numbers stamped on the side of the frame, just behind the front axle on the passenger side, and I've got a 2A frame with the stock I.D tag rivited on the drivers side front frame horn. So yes they do have numbers. :flipoff2:

Hello,

I've got a 62 Landcruiser with plates/registration
and clear title in my name. It's complete with
top and canvas/metal doors and newer top. Have
a extra 71 engine also that has a burnt valve.
I could actually drive it if I fixed the either
master cylinder or clutch cylinder. I forget
which since its been sitting inside the garage
for eons.
I'd let all of it go for $1500.00. Its all
original with six cylinder and vacuum transfercase.

Actually I forgot I even had it in there until
I was looking for something the other day.

Just a thought.

thanks

SCoutII, unfortunatly, I don';t need a whole cruiser. IF you wanna work out a trade for the Flatty tage, we can do something, but otherwisae, I gotta hold out for tags
