Hello,

we just bought a 1993 Range Rover County LWB with 112k miles on it, mainly for off-roading (though, on other board, a person said that this model have sacraficed some off-road ability toward luxury  ... is this true? )

Well, first of all, what do you all think of this particular model ? How good is it ?

Secondly, what are the first and main things we should do to it, to make it more off-road like ?

The air suspension was changed to normal already (should we change it back or what ? )

and we have to get new wheels for sure (what kind ? All-Terrain ? )

Any other suggestions ?

Thank you all :)

here's a place to start
http://www.rangie.com/
once you get through that then search here
once you have searched here you'll realize that we'll all tell you to cut the fenders replace the axles lengthen the links front and rear and that's just the beginning. Have fun with that truck.
There isn't a difference between that Rangie and a regular wheelbase except the length. Hope that helps some if not:flipoff2: :flipoff2:

If it runs and drives and is not to ratty, then here is your best option. Sell it to me for $1000. I will make it a famous, notorious rig and you can look on in horror. I am sure you spent more on it. But believe me I am saving you money and grief in the long run.

I like it much better when people are not lazy about asking for information. When people ask "what should I do" and do not share any of their own thoughts or expectations, I find it hard to take seriously. Give us a bone here. Is it a Lunar Rover, a Mud Runner, a backwoods banjo special or what. Do not get angry about my mean attitude just get the message. Oh, and can I make payments?

What you do with the truck depends on your experience and what you want the truck to be. Take the '93 off road a few times; i'm sure you'll find that you are the limiting factor-not the truck! A great place to start is always with diff guards, a jate ring up front, and a Receiver shackle for the rear. Everything else could just be a waste if you only go out and wheel once or twice per year.
Don't make the mistake that many make by spending tons of bucks on your truck and never using it.
Be that as it may, you will probably scrape the front air dam, knock off the bumper caps; this is why so many people upgrade their front and rear bumpers. If you drive over rocks, you will probably bend a track rod, a drag link, tie rod, and tie rod ends, and then replace them... and bend them again. Some people go beefy, others just weld armor in place.

Best thing for you to do, is go out with a bunch of people, use your truck, be amazed at what it will do, and see what others have done. For many people here in VA, a decent set of mud tires and diff guards will get you lots of places, whereas out west, you need a locker and a lift just to get onto the trail (or so it seems sometimes).

Drive your truck, be amazed at what it will do, and take note of what gets you stuck... let that guide your spending.

10spline - that's about the best thing i've read on this board in a long time. i couldn't agree more. Just get in the damn thing and drive it. I've run some pretty snotty trails in the ORV parks on stock 205's.

recovery points and M/T's are a bare mininum. stick with a sub 32" radius and you'll have a lot of fun.

plan on spending 1-3k on maintenance in the first year to catch up - most people let these things fall to crap as DD's.

i meant to add . . .

sacraficed some off-road ability toward luxury

let's damn well hope so - it IS a range rover. I wouldn't be caught out on the trail without either belgian cookies, or a good block of imported cheese (i prefer roquefort generally). goes well with the miller highlife long necks. hey, at least i'm honest.

oh yeah - welcome newbie :flipoff2:
