do you have to remove the upper and lower mounts or is there a way to just undo the ball joints and remove the SLU leaving the brackets?
What about a sawsall?

Sawsall will work, you can cut the arm that comes of the lower portion of SLU. I would only cut if the joint on the bottom is wrecked. Unless you just wanna cut!

I personally removed the SLU's of both my RR's w/o cutting. There are 4 bolts up top that attach to the chassis, and then the funny joint on the bottom that will prob require you to grind down one of your 17mm open ends to make it real thin.

I removed the bottom joint first and then removed the top, just watch out if the SLU is still wedged against the bottom joint and you remove the fourth screw up top it will want to take your fingers off! ask me how I know!

that thing is heavy too :)

where is the nut for the 17mm? mine (unless I'm blind and just missing it) doesn't look like the one in the book. It has the area on the lower joint for the snap ring, that holds the lower end of the dust boot, but no nut? That's why I can't figure the thing out. The book shows a nut top and bottom to take up slack on the ball joints? I think there is one up top but a real PAS to get to. I'd rathernot take the saw to the lower arm, but its looking better and better as the weekend nears. I'm heading to Llano,Tx to do some wheeling in the hill country along the Llano River.

you will remove the top portion of the SLU by removing four bolts off of the chassis....you dont have to touch any ball joints up top, but try to remove the bottom first.

To remove the bottom of the SLU, pull up the dust cover and one of the 'nuts' I am referring to is actually the lower part of the SLU that is female threaded. The other nut is part of the ball joint(male). They may look like one big nut:eek: but once you get them apart everything's a piece of cake. I think this is where you may need the thin wrench. I think the ball joint's nut is thin. U can get creative to hold the nut, the joint will be useless if your not using the SLU....feel free to ask any more questions....good luck,
Kaan..
