to start with i have a 71 fj40 with a 350 and H55F

i am wondering if my adapter bellhousing for my 2 peice rear main seal 350 will also work with a fuel injected one peice rear main seal or do i have to buy a new bell housing. (i am not sure who's bell housing i have)

secondly i have been informed that my tranfercase will be the weak link when i switch to 38's. does anyone know if the bolt patter for my t-case is the same as one off the 4speed and if so what adapters are their so i don't have to run the offset rearend any more and i don't have to worry about breaking it.

It would also be nice to actually get a little gearing out of my t-case

thanks

the bellhousing should work and the 3-speed and 4speed t-case have the same bolt patterns the rest of the post confused the hell out of me

The bolt patterns for the t-case should be the same but the input gear splines are different. Get a t-case saver and run it. And when/if it blows get something else.

bellhousing will work, t-case bolt pattern is the same, t-case input gear splines are different, but you might be able to find the right gear to go along with your setup.

If you have an H55F, the t-case is very different from the 3-spd case and the old 4-spd case. It is a split case and if it is newer than an '85-'86ish, it is a very strong case. Even the older split cases are very strong.

There aren't many adapters available to get the H55 to go to a different t-case.

As far as gearing, aftermarket 3.x:1 gears are available for the split case. There is also an NP203 doubler that you could put between the H55 and t-case, but length will be an issue in an FJ40.

I think your case will be fine, I've never seen a broken split-case (but I'm sure they're out there). My friend runs a 350 with 36" TSLs and the old weak 3-spd case. He is in no way light on the throttle and has yet to break it.

I thought they were weak, this is great news, thanks.

if there is an NP203 doubler for it couldn't i just bolt 2 NP203's together and runner it that way and forget about the split case?
I really want to run a center pumpkin in the rear.

Thank you

The np203 is said not to be a very good t-case (full-time, chain drive). OTOH the gear reduction unit of it is real beefy. if you want a centered t-case look to an np205. I know someone out there makes an adapter to do this. all this will probably cost $$$ & you'll have a REAL short Read D-shaft. the stock split t-case you have is a real good case & should handle 38's w/ no problems.
