in high school a bunch of us called our selves the "Caucasian Crew" we were told to stop at once or face suspension. also all 6 black guys in our HS wanted to kick our asses for being racist...WTF?

Some friends and I did this when I was at the Junior College. It didn't last long as we pretty much got bored and distracted by Beer. Our president BTW was japanese. It was a point we were trying to make that was spurred by a speach I made in a public speaking class.

We had a requirement to write a speech and give it in class, don't remember the premise. It had to be argumentative. I did mine on the racial aspect and inequity of the ethnic groups on campus. I made the argument that a white person club was no more or less racist than a black person club. I talked about how the act of preventing a white club was akin to saying that ALL other cultures were more important than white culture. The promotion and prevention of white clubs create the perception that there was no white culture and we had no need or right to ask for any recognition of said culture. I argued that the existance of ethnic clubs was akin to sponsored racism and seperatism that had the only notably effect of promoting racial divides and giving credence and value to racism against whites.

I got a standing ovation from my Malaysian friend and the only black guy in the class. I got a lot of support and had some very insightfull and helpful discussions with this guys friends. I published the speech, as per requirements, in the school paper and started getting death threats and some pretty nasty comments. I was really worried because my dad was a senior professor at the school and I didn't want to get him involved. We did start a club and fought the registration process, helped to have a friend on the student board. It didn't go anywhere and never really became official but it proved the point. The simple notion of it at one point got us banned from the student body meetings. We fought and got the ban lifted, but never felt welcome after that, obviously.

This was over 10 years ago. Last I heard one of the girls involved had gone to some big school back east and started the White Student Union(WSU). The club was spread to several other universities. Thats really all the info I have about that though. I kept getting distracted by Beer, and my engineering classes at my university. Besides I joined a fraternity, and we are all white racists right? Just ask my asian, jewish, persian, and mexican bros. Or better yet ask my black gran-little bro!

Racism is Racism. The white student clubs are racist. They should not be allowed in a public institution just as the other racist clubs should not be allowed. It promotes seperation, dissent and violence. I have several other stories about these groups, especially MeCHA . :mad:

I like what you said about the clubs though. My individual experience with other ethnicities/races/cultures mirrors that. I get along with individuals, but on a social, group basis, it is almost as if many minorities are encouraged, against their free-will, to become racist. I say against their free will because individually, I don't believe most minority people actually think and act the way the NAACP or equivalents encourages them to act and think. I guess it's hard to explain, I can't seem to get my point across. I know many people of all races and ethnicities have a real problem with this, but my experience is, they're a minority in their own group. The only exception to this seems to be Jews, who don't seem to feel the need to seperate themselves or develop a class hate in America. Well, except for their fringe wackos in the JDL, and of course Ariel Sharon. :rolleyes: :laughing:

in my yearbook there was like 4 or 5 pages on mecha or what ever that mexican club is. so why couldn't there be a white club. the funny thing is is that there's all sorts of these clubs and tv channels for blacks but do we try to stop them. They are a pretty nasty group. My buddy had a pretty serious run in with them, as well as many of us in the greek system. We were having a politcal fight. MeCHA wanted their candidate in and we wanted ours. They got really pissed because we had over a thousand members and they had a couple hundred. Of course we won.

They went before the student council and protested. They made blanket statements that all the greeks were white racists. The council at the time was mostly greeks, two were mexican, one was asian, one middle eastern, and one was white(JEWISH). They complained about how unfair it was and how they were holding the mexicans back. The mexican and the jew were in my house and the mexican came from a very old mexican family in LA.

My buddy at the time was the school mascot. He was also on the student body. There was a grievance brought about salaries inequities among the organization secretaries. Here is his quote as to what happened:

Yeah, they protested that the secretary of their Umbrella organization made less than the secretary of the other Umbrella organization... Lamm's solution/motion: cut the other secretary's salary... seconded--vote tied 10-10, I broke with a vote in favor... motion carries: The other organization's secretary's salary will be cut to MeCHa's level.

They were hoping to get more money for their secretary. The solution did not please them and they were pissed at my buddy because he broke the tie. Later on there were a bunch of them at a game and planned on attacking my bud. He was the mascot. They didn't account for the difference in support. Also while by bud is not a large man, a number of his bros, including Lamm mentioned aboved could be considered VERY VERY large. Dave is over 6'5" and at the time well over 350. They made up the front line of our schools Football team.

So all the MeCHA boys showed up at the game. One of them went for my bud and before they reach him the crowd, which had been stacked with greeks as they word had got around, opened up and just kinda swallowed them.

They just couldn't get past the fact that we had SO many more people and many of them were Mexican.

People only point to race so that wealthy minorities can point to a reason why they're oppressed, but in this day and age they have much more equality based on their financial situation than poor people of powerful races.

For example Texas has/had a 10% rule rule that basically allowed anyone in the top 10% of their highschool class to get into the Public university of their choice. Now they're going back to affrimative action because apparenlty the 10% isn't working. They don't look at the fact that the reason the 10% rule apprently isn't working is because it really isn't helping out the people it wants to. Just because some poor black kid from the 5th word is in the top 10% of his class and is accepted into UT doesn't mean he'll be able to afford to come, nor does it mean he'll want to because he's got to support his mom, or siblings. And affirmative action isn't going to fix this, its only goig to allow minorites from wealthy housholds who can't even finish in the top 10% of their highschool classes, but who can afford to come to UT.

All Affirmative action does is allow people to get ahead who don't deserve it. I understand that there are problems in society that make it hard for someone to come out of Compton or Harlem or the 5thWard and go to a good college, and get a good job, and I don't think race has to do with those problems. They're societal issues based on class. They can't get ahead based on financial situations. They go through the wrong paths in life because in their neighborhoods thats all they know. Its the same if you're from South Central, or West Virginia, if you don't have money you can't get ahead as well as someone who does. I guarantee you Bill Cosby's kids, Colin Powells kids, and George Forman's kids have as much of a chance of getting a good education, getting into a good college, getting a good degree and a good job as I do, infact probably more so.

BTW I'm not saying rae is't still an issue, it just shouldn't be. Yea there are still racists, but I bet you if an African American who grew up in Belaire feels nearly as unsafe in Compton as I would.

At my school they got pretty violent. They also pushed to have a new administrative building they built on campus be named after Chavez. Chavez had NEVER set foot on our campus or done anything for the school. The administration wanted to name the building after one of the past universtity presidents(who I think was hispanic) that had been good for the campus and community. MeCHA even had a protest and picket lines on campus over this. They kept saying that Chavez is not properly remembered. Anyone who has spent any time in and around LA would know that is complete BS.

You're and moron if you actually think Blacks have 900% chance of getting into a college over you. Quit making up facts and actually think before you write anything. Yes affirmative action does allow for a certain number of minorites to get into a college over basically equal white applicants, but acceptance still all comes down to the application. If you have a 3.2 and they need to fill a quota and allow a black student with a 3.15 then that sucks for you, but thats not going to happen 9 out of 10 times like you claim, and if you have a 4.0 they aren't going to boot you for someone with a 2.2. Ok "you real Americans" (as in native American??) almost every one in the US (I assume by American you mean USA 'cause there are these two continents called North and South America with a whole lot of Americans on them too), is an import as I suspect most of you are, less than a half dozen generations ago somewhere in your linage. So you going to leave and give the "real "Americans" back their land? If you are full native American you might have some grounds for having messed up thinking like this (pun intended) otherwise your thought process is like a fart in a hurricane, not of much consequence.

As someone else said, the deciding factors of the world are too busy getting their jobs done to be bickering about crap...not all are white, there are many non-white people that are deciding factors in the world. I still don't understand why 99% of the people in projects are black though.

YES. I am as white as anyone can get, yet I was President of MEChA at San Diego Mesa College 1988-90. I was also Vice President of the Black Student Union for the Fall '89 semester. When I got involved, MEChA had about 20 active members, but when I left for SDSU, it was the largest club on campus.
