Well damn, if it isn't one thing it's another.

I haven't really touched the Rover since I got back from wheeling it in August. When I left the campground to go home that time, the truck was fine- everything worked relatively well. But when I got home, neither of the doors would shut... by a longshot. I knew there was a problem and somewhat avoided the truck for the past two months. But today I was poking around underneath checking out a pretty severe transfer case leak and happened to glance at the 2nd to last crossmember... big gaping holes. This was not a tremendous surprise, as I knew that it was somewhat crusty before.

But from the crossmember, my eyes wandered outwards to where it joins the framerails. My heart sunk.

Each of the framerails, at the rear seam of where the 4th crossmember welds in, is broken. Yes broken... not rusted out, but split on all sides but the top and opening up like Monica Lewinsky spreads her legs.

Fuck.

That is all.

How hard can it be to make frame????

You have a welder and a chop saw right?

Yes, but I also have a donor vehicle from which I'm taking a frame: 1989 Range Rover. Before the winter is out this truck will end up at 100" wheelbase, coil sprung, and with a drivetrain swap to something with a little more nut and much better gears.

Just venting because I thought I might be able to get one more trail run out of it this year.

Entertained maybe. Care, don't bet on it, most of us have seen rotted series frames (those who don't have one or two rotting away).
