: Rust Removal ... Sandblaster?

Okay, this isn't 4x4, but it ain't chit chat either. Imagine if you will, a small steel frame composed of sheetmetal forms and tubes with many small pockets and recesses. This steel frame is riveted to an aluminum tunnel.

Yeah, it's a snowmobile.

The front end is rusted to shit ... but I'm hell bent on rebuilding this thing. I've fought with grinders and wire wheels for hours with little appreciable progress.

Is sandblasting/bead blasting an option? Aside from heavy rust, the original finish appears to be a powder coat or a heavy paint (epoxy based?). If I can sandblast this thing, is there a cheap blaster that I can rent and power off my 6hp, 33 gallon compressor?

Or am I better off parting with the cash to have a pro do it?

TIA

you could get a crappy blaster, i bought one from Home depot for like 100 bucks, works great but takes a LONG ass time, a bad dude one in a cabnet that a machine shop woulhd have is fast but may cost a lot
so basicly i add nothing to your question :D

I left my cage out in the rain unpainted for a couple of weeks and had to sand blast it. I picked up a craftsman gravity feed gun setup that you just hookup to a compressor. I think it was like $30 or so, maybe a little more(it's been about 3 or 4 years). It works, but like welndmn said, it'll take you a LOOOOOOOONG time. My dad just had a bare frame blasted at a local sandblasting place for like $75. Might be worth the extra cash to have somebody else do it. I'd call around a little.
