does anyone run inner tubes in their tires? seems like it would help protect against breaking a bead. dunno tho, any problems with them?

I ran a tube in one tire due to some damage to it. I found that at low pressures, the tire would spin on the rims, and rip the tubes valve stem off.

This is of much interest to me... I also carry tubes to use if I destroy more than 2 side walls. I haven't had to use one yet.

How low of pressure were you running when the tire spun and ripped the valve stem off?

What size tire?

What type of tire?

Wheel... size, width, type?

How well did the valve stem line up with the hole in the wheel ( I had my wheels drilled for tubes when they were made... hole closer to the center)?

Thanks,

If I were gonna run a tube @ low pressure I would drill the wheel in the middle for the valve stem, run a large tractor water valve with a screw on brass ring to hold the stem from spinning, and place antifreeze or grease or some other slick lubricant inside the tire prior to assembly to slightly lube and help the tube from sticking to the tire.

just my .02

15x7 rims steel spokes.
I was running about 15PSI on a mostly stock YJ.
Put a mark on your tires before you go wheeling again. They always move. It used to drive me nuts trying to keep tires balanced before I went to alternative balancing methods.
Putting a lubrcant inside the tire sounds like a good idea
