I need to narrow a chrysler 8 3/4 rear axle housing. What is the easiesy way? I would hate to just cut it with a cut off saw and butt weld the tubes back together. Anyone know of a shop in Southern Ca. that will do it for me. I called currie, the guy said they would do it for $85 if it had ford outters and ford axles .

I have an axle out of a 86 Zuk you could use. It's already narrow.:flipoff2:

why not get a tube that will fit right inside the axle tubes and use it as an inside sleve???

Mittler (spelling?) bros. has a alighnment jig you can buy, but I would imagine the cost to be greater than the price you got from Currie.

here's the the short version of how to do this:

1:carefully cut the ends off of your housing.

2:carefully calculate where to cut your housing to come up with the new length and cut it.

3:align the ends with the carrier bearings and reweld them to the housing.

4:call Currie or Summers Bros. or Mark Williams or whoever and have them make new axles or shorten and respline yours.(maybe call before you cut to make sure what your getting into)

5:put it all together and hope you did it right.

Personally, I wouldn't recommend all the trouble on this axle, but it can be done.
