I am in the process of coiling my 88. For now it will be simpler to go all stock suspension and just cut down a 110 frame to length.
I have tons of parts but wonder about springs. Currently my 88 is 2600lbs FAW and 2400lbs RAW when all loaded down with camping gear and fuel. She is 2400/2100 empty.
Am wondering what they used for springs under the shoreland armored cars.
If a rover coil can't hold the weight I will look into getting some custom coils built.
I am just not really ready to go full on four link and coilovers yet.
Thanks
Pete

Aloha!
Dude, you can get some NICE Old man Emu springs that can suit your taste. You can select from a wide variety of lengths, rates, and uses...
No need to go for the crappy stock springs

Pete:
There are innumerable suppliers who can help you out, and you appear to already know the info they will need to spec springs for you.
I have Rover Tyms on one rig and Bearmach on another, OME shox on one and Bingensteins on the other. I prefer the OME shox and RTE springs myself.

Thankyou. Didn't know that the aftermarket guys would offer greater load capabilities.
Thought if stock wouldn't work I would need to go to Northwest Spring or some such and get some custom made.
Thanks again.

Hey Pete
Have you thought of taking the rear spring mounts and springs from the 110 chassis and putting them up front? Hmmmmm
Standing here in the garage it seems like it may be an idea worth pondering?
Have you inquired with our friends on the other side of the Atlantic yet? They do 6.2-6.5 conversions all the time. If you need supe-up stuff for that motor i am an American Deisel type nd have several good "connections" 0-60 in 5 seconds in an 88"?

Keep in mind the 110 rear springs are significantly larger in diameter (as is the spring perches). I had to have some custom jobbers wound by John at RTE with rates supplied by KC. He pretty much nailed the correct rate for my truck btw, and the springs are perfect for what I like to do.

5000lbs... thats slightly lighter than your average Range Rover, Discovery, or 110. You should have no problems finding coil springs that work, but you may have to tweak the rates for a while to get them juuust right. In any case, coils are cheap and can be resold for little loss if they are near new.

I had considered rears on the front and the fabrication would be soup, but I figure there has to be some stock fronts around, the shorlands are way heavy.
I keep forgetting about all the other 6.2/5 conversions. I have talked in the past with a guy that did a 110 pickup. Sent me photos, thing looks like it left the factory with the v8 in it.
I am a member of the GM Deisel group and got some great advice when I built the engine. Don't know about 5, but maybe 10-12.
