: R.E. Front Upper Arms
Tx Outlaw 12-10-2001, 07:50 PM Anyone know the basic length of the front upper adjustable control arms for the TJ? My Tera-type arms are trashed. I called R.E. today to get some of the front long-arms (upper and lower set) and they told me they're not selling individual pieces. :mad3:  I do not need the upgrade kit they want to sell me since I converted the rear to leafs and the skidplate wouldn't do me any good with the front part of the frame stretched 8".
BTW: wonder what the people who have the L-A kit are going to do if they trash an arm?
Beast40 12-10-2001, 08:43 PM The Front upper arm in the RE long arm kit is the same length as a stock upper arm but can be adjusted out.
Yeah ... what the newbie said. RE's long arm kit uses a "Y" type front arm so the upper portion is actually the same exact piece as a standard short UCA.
If you've gone to leafs in back and a stretched front, I have an inkling of a thought that you may be handy with fabbing up some parts ... or ya' got a handy friend that likes your money. Either way, just order up the joints from RE, get some DOM, and start fabbin'.

Tx Outlaw 12-11-2001, 05:05 AM Well.............. I had somebody who liked my money. That's another story.
I was starting to think about this a little more this morning and thought I remembered one of the upper sets for the L-A kit (or both) were the same as the standard (adjustable) ones. Thanks!
I'll have a real friend fab up some lowers for me since I know now that he can do that kind of work - wish I'd known that before!
Mabe I need to learn how to weld one of these days too. :D
Next   : Where's the best place (possibly cheapest) to get the RE upper arms?
Thanks again!
I don't think RE allows any of their distributors to sell their stuff any cheaper than you can get it direct from RE for ... at least not that I have seen thus far.
Personally, I don't care to deal with RE's customer service. So whenever I order RE parts, I call up my buddy Mikey at Off Road Toy Store (http://www.offroadtoystore.com). His prices are identical to RE's, but he is much easier to deal with. Plus he's a college buddy of mine who moved out to CO from IN to start his Jeep parts business so I try and throw whatever business I can his way.

borton 12-11-2001, 09:41 AM get the adjustable uppers from curry, they also have a jonny joint in the frame end, and will sell separate.
borton 12-11-2001, 09:44 AM or curry will custom make them to any length you want, and i believe this is cheaper than the adjustable ones.

Aledo is about 25 miles west of Ft Worth. I just so happened to call Russ yesterday. $200 a control arm is what I was initially quoted, but suppose to call back on Thursday to get a more positive amount. If he's seriously talking $200 per arm, that would come out to $ 800 for just the front!  $400 more and I could just buy the complete RE long-arm upgrade kit with rear arms and new skidplate too. Guess we'll wait and see.
Michael Lopas 12-11-2001, 05:35 PM That RE skid plate is MASSIVE!! It is 1/4 inch and costs a bit more than $450. Installing mine this weekend.:D Not much is going to wreck that skid (or the brackets on it).
Tx Outlaw 12-14-2001, 12:36 PM Just want to post an update...........
Talked to Russ at Baertrax again today (since he wasn't in yesterday), he said the $200 per arm included the lower long arm and the upper shorter arm connected to it. So, $400 per side........... COOL! I'll be getting custom R.E.-style front control arms soon. :bounce: :bounce2: :bounce:
Beast40 12-14-2001, 07:25 PM Bob Supplee 4x4 can save you over 25% off most RE Stuff. For example RE wanted 150 plus shipping for their front 5.5" coils, but charged me 130 shipped, thats a big savings.

Bob's a good guy! Just talked to him the other day. If RE would part out the long-arm kit, I'd definitely go thru Bob. :D :D
