with that kind of damage....I doubt he will warranty....that looks like abuse!! if you break an axle, he won't warranty the u-joint!!

I understand your point, but in our sport isn't "abuse" a very relative term? Every trip I make there is no doubt "abuse" taking place and I'd feel safe assuming that goes for all of the regulars to PBB.

Don't we buy CTM's to limit how the "abuse" effects our respective rigs? Of course there must be a threshold for warranty situations, but I don't consider what he did to that joint "abuse", I simply call it wheelin'...

:D

How often was that cap greased?

It really appears that u-joint was in bad need of some lube. People think that just because it is bulletproof CTM, you just install it and forget it. You'll increase strength and longevity if you service them regularly.

Yep, it looks awfully dry to me too ...

Anyway, since the joint is OK, Jack does offer a rebuild kit with new caps.

Abuse....is Abuse......USE is USE.

if you use a CTM, It will almost never fail. If you abuse it, it will fail. It is near bulletproof, but not FOOLproof.

I have an idea ... how about you wait until Mon., normal business hours, to call CTM and talk to THEM about their warranty instead of having people who have NOTHING to do with the company speculate on the company's policies.

EDIT: This post is directed at the speculators, not the one who posted the pics. I understand his reasoning was probably just to show off his broken part.

Grease is good grease is your friend. Just about everytime I saw a ujoint fail(non CTM) it was because of binding or lack of grease. If I spent that much on a ujoint I would have greased it a lot just to protect my investment. CTM will probably take care of you but I wouldn't if it was me.

Speaking of greasy u-joints, what is the deal with these Spicer Life joints? Almost every joint in my truck is one and I was told I never have to grease them. But I took my rear shaft out yesterday and turned a 1410 cap by hand after about 6 months of wheeling and it feels like it could use some grease. But I've been told that if I put grease in them they are just impossible to get back together because the seal won't relieve pressure. So what's the dealio? Is 6 months all I get out of a "lifetime" u-joint?

he has admitted responsibility and wants to fix it! that is all, he is not trying to get it for free... plus he probly cant just ring jack at CTM up.... it might be too expensive, or 3am over there when Jack is in the office. :D

Would this "repair kit" work on a regular joint?

NOPE...the posts on CTMs are larger than a stock u-joint.
