: BIG tires on the Assasin Part II
Station 12-10-2001, 08:34 PM So there has been plenty of time since the Warn even for everybody to get pictures developed/ find pics on the net.
I would like to see the pics people have of the Assasin on those huge Michelin tires before it broke.
My calculations say that there should have been a little more than 27" of clearance under the differentials:eek:
I would really like to see pics of how they grooved the tires.
Thanks
Sean
What a tease- I thought YOU were posting pics!:D
Station 12-11-2001, 09:38 AM 204 lookers, but nobody with any pictures?

That is why the thread is called BIG tires on the Assasin part II.
There was only one pic in the first thread.

Charles Aarons 12-11-2001, 03:42 PM You can buy 325/85R16 XMLs with 90% tread from Dollar Tire (www.dollartire.com) in Edmonton, Alberta for about US$120 each. New from taradon@uniserve.com they are US$380, the best new price I've seen. I'm running them on 16X10" rims on my '88 F350 crewcab expedition truck. 13" wide.
I have 4.88s, D60/14 bolt, lockers, 2" add-a-leaf plus a bit of fender trimming, Rock Ram, dual hydraulic winches, etc. It's on www.ford-diesel.com, "contents", "featured rigs".

In colo its easy!!! Its probably regestered as something that is 81 or older ie a Jeep or something like that. Then all they do is go get emissions once a year with that plate and all that is checked is a few things. Pretty easy. That is an old plate too.
VT_Toy 12-11-2001, 06:21 PM WOW. I've seen that thing before, but not with those huge tires on it!
convertiyota 12-11-2001, 07:23 PM What the hell is that registered as??
YJ4RoX 12-11-2001, 07:35 PM That thing is cool, but DAUUMNN, a little excessive dont ya think. I mean 48's come awn, i think those guys have a size complex:D
Station 12-11-2001, 08:00 PM Great Pics Danger Ranger:eek: Thank You
Now does anybody else have any pictures of this thing working it?
I hear it was owning the trails at the Warn event while it lasted.

From what i know, it broke the pinions in each diff. They're using 9" ring and pinions. And it supposedly has a 500:1 final drive ratio... as in the tires to the ground

You could probably build one for say......$100,000 but only if you know the right people
Hell, he has more invested in one axle than i do in my entire truck!
ToyFamily 12-12-2001, 03:03 AM I heard it was registered as a CJ! If jeeps actually worked like that maaybe I'd drive one :D

I believe that the steering wheel is removed, and you can climb out the front.
aaronlosey 12-12-2001, 09:59 AM see the guy in the brown leather jacket standing on the rock in the last picture with a camera in his hand, he is from our crew. we have plenty of video of the assassin on 48's that will go into one of our new videos, and on the outdoor channel. that guy is garth, he owns the red cj8 "gossamer" that is on the cover of JPmagazine this month
Brawler 12-12-2001, 10:16 AM Guy in the second pic is Eric from Fat City.
fcfred 12-12-2001, 10:55 AM all I can say is that thing is bad ass
if I had the time and money I would try to build one
http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/attachment.php?s=&postid=177065
Looks like they spent all the money on the rig and can't afford a nice trailer:D;)
Station 12-12-2001, 05:07 PM TTT OMT
I dont think that assasin type vehicles or buggys should be allowed to compete against normal trucks. I think they should make some sort of classes. I just think that there is a big difference in takeing a regular truck and making it a bad ass offroad rig and building one out of all dom tubing. I just dont think it is fair.
But that is just me.
As for the assasin, I think it is kinda stupid in a way. I could take a fourwheeler everywhere the assasin went. So why dont I just build a badass fourwheeler and call it a truck and zip past everyone on the trails?
I dont know if anyone else can see my logic, but I do.
fcfred 12-12-2001, 05:39 PM well I think, (and take this with the knowledge that I have not competed in these things but am interested in doing so) that there should be at least two classes and one would be open to anyone running anything stock to wild. This put the competition in the drivers seat and his shop. I think it is cool what people build and that is part of the fun of these comps. I see them as kinda the junkyard wars of rockcrawling. It's about building something and going out and gettin it. No it's not fair if you can't figure out how to build somethin, but competions like this rarely are fair. I like seeing all the different stuff not everyone in the same rig. Yawn boring. tThe other guy is always gonna have more $, time and sponsorships, the question is does he/she have more brains, skills and crazy right footed guts?

All it takes to put a license plate on something like that is a screwdriver, and a reckless disregard for the law.

BRUISER-42 12-12-2001, 08:23 PM The pinions sheared at the Warn comp. We had to use stock strength R&P's because the end ratio we wanted required 2:72 in the 3rd member. This ment that the pinion was 28 spline and hardened to factory specs. The load of the 48" snapped the pinions. The new R&P's are race series (soft gear) with a 35 spline pinion. The race series gear is the staple, that is used in the High Mark and the Advantage axles, so it has never happened before. As far purchasing an Assassin, about $45,000 with High Marks. It was never designed to be a everyday trail get around. It was spawned because the comp rules basically pushed our Silver Sniper with the 44" Swampers out. So the Assassin was built to conform to the ever changing ARCA rules, and we like to win. As far as disregard for the law, anyone with a extreme trail rig is probably stretching or breaking a law if enforced to the letter. Clifton :jeep:
Brawler 12-13-2001, 07:50 AM With all the money you guys spend on those high mark housings you would think you could get them to stop leaking. I personally don't think much of the assasin. Why? Have you ever seen it in person? The link set-up is goofy, the gear reduction boxes on the axles hang down outside of the wheel, one seater that only someone under a 150lbs could squeeze into, the remote resevoirs for the the shocks are not protected on the hood (in case of rollover) lots of reasons. Price wise i think four seater sniper would be a better deal.
