: Patriot Trail
Ran the trail today with ED Magoffin. We had a great time. Here are some pics. I will continue to scan a few and post some more in a bit. Hydraulic assist worked out well today. I can finally turn these damn tires.

Good work Adam. NICE!
That's NOT and easy trail.
It's been a while, but did you post pics of your hydro assist? If not do! Did you use the Rover PS box?
Man...I'm jonesin' for a little action man. How's the end of Oct for Cruses or Avalanche Ranch look for you (and others)?

There was never really any interest when I had made a thread about info in the past. I will put up another though in case some others would like to run a similar set-up.
I run a Howe box, Howe filter, and Howe 1.5" Ram attached to the Pitman arm. Howe Pump as well. Matt at Rockware put it in for me and did a great job.
madcowdungbeetle 10-05-2003, 07:27 PM I would be interested in seein what you did with your setup, since hydro-assist is defintly in my future.
As far as my schedule, end of October is a little too soon. I am down to run some things in Nov.
Wierd thing happened towards the end of the trail today. I lost my brakes. Not sure why yet. Had to winch the last 200 feet becasue of this. Once on flat ground, I bled the brakes with Eds friend and found some air in the system. The pump was running continuously prior to this. After that they were very soft, but somewhat operational. On the drive home they seemed to fix themselves and the pump does not run anymore. Wierd. I want to figure out what the deal was prior to making any short term committments to wheel. Down the road I would like to replace the entire system with an aftermarket one that I can have some adjustment with. But for now the steering set-up was about all that I wanted to outlay for my money pit (aka rover).
Jtisdale 10-05-2003, 07:48 PM Nice pics, man I want to run that trail! Looks like you guys had fun. Definately post some pics of your hydro setup.

pendy 10-05-2003, 10:45 PM I sure do like that picture of your back end so high in the air. Uh huh, I sure do. Bet you were digging all those crazy off camber angles you were in. Great Job.
Has anyone seen the hydro setup on the cover truck of the most recent JP (jeep-heep) magazine? It shows a newer style of assit that really looks to help bump steer problems. Hell the guy built his own ram out of a shock as well. It is nice stuff. It uses a pivot to decrease the amount of drop needed on the pitman arm and bumpsteer. Take look when you are buying groceries.

sachilles 10-06-2003, 11:56 AM I have no knowledge of the trail personally.......but it cracks me up to see the railing near the stairs......gives me thought of you rockcrawling at the zoo or a local park...I'm not belittling you or the trail....just seems wierd to see a railing in wheeling photos.
Very impressive rangie(and driving).
had similar problem with the brakes in the Audi last weekend racing.....nothing like losing you brakes going into a corner. Turned out to be the ABS system.....your rangie have ABS by any chance? Basicly, the valve in the abs gets stuck open relieving pressure.

Just wondering, why is there a rail there?

UPOVR 10-06-2003, 05:39 PM It's for hikers who are also members of AARP. :flipoff2:
Rail is to block easy routes out. Keeps the riff raff off of the trail.
I do have ABS at one point in time. It is disabled, but I do have an ABS pump and it is a PITA.
