: 6 to 8 lug conversion
sloburban 10-06-2003, 08:12 PM Kinda silly question. I want to make my corp 10 bolt 6 lug front axle into an 8 lug. Its on an 87 sub. The question is, what is the best (and least exspensive) way to do this? And/ or, can I take a HD44 8 lug out of a FORD and flip it over to a pass drop?
showmek5 10-06-2003, 10:02 PM No. You cant flip over a Ford axle, for that matter just get an 8 lug chevy 44. Go here

CJ-Jeeper 10-06-2003, 10:37 PM Is yours already locked & geared?
If not - seel yours & buy an 8 lug.
If it is - get the hub, rotor & brakes off an 8 lug 10b or D44 (not sure if the brakes will be the same).
sloburban 10-06-2003, 11:51 PM If I can't flip the D44 out of a FORD, can I at least use the spindles, backing plates and hub rotor assy from it, and would they work on my corp 10?
I need to match the gears to the rear and I don't intend on locking the front right now, but my wiff found my wallet so I don't think I can afford to replace the axle with a 3/4 ton yet. Unless someone knows where I can get one for cheap??
sloburban 10-07-2003, 11:09 AM can someone help the newbie? ford parts on a chevy?
Arya Ebrahimi 10-07-2003, 11:51 AM Not gonna work. Fords are a 5 stud spindle and Chebbys are a 6 stud spindle. Passenger drop chevy axles are cheap dude, like under 200$ cheap I believe. Not many people want a low pinion passenger drop axle. I'm sure you could find one at a u-pull for 100$ if you tried hard enough.
OR, for an even better idea, you could read the article above that details how to convert it :flipoff2: If you can afford to buy a ford and flip if, you can afford to buy 2 spindles, 2 hub/rotor assemblies, 2 caliper stands and 2 sets of bearings/races. Most of which you could probably find at a junkyard for a good price. People are telling you what you need to do. I know this is the newbie forum, but come awn, at least pay attention when people give you suggestions. Or at the very least explain why that's not a good option for ya. Hope ya get it figured out. :flipoff2:
100th post, I'm not a newbie anymore :flipoff2: :D :flipoff2:
Ary
I just removed my 8 lug D44 outers....let me know if you are interested in buying them. This will make your swap easy.
sloburban 10-07-2003, 06:17 PM Ary, Thanks for your comments. But I did ask a specific question and you gave a specific answer. That is what I was looking for. I know about the JY and the article, so next time you get on a newbie, pay attention to the question you answered and not the first one they asked. Im a newbie. Not a dumbie.
sloburban 10-07-2003, 06:18 PM Eric, how much for those outers?
Why are you so hell bent on using Ford outers? The first thing you asked is for cheap and that article is the cheapest and easiest way to convert. I bought my eight lug parts for $80. This included spindles, hubs, rotors, calipers, and caliper stands. Your existing spindles and calipers will work, so you don't need them. Mine had the wrong spindles and my calipers were shot.
sloburban 10-07-2003, 11:53 PM CSP,
I guess Im hell bent because my neighbor has that ford axle sitting in his yard, and said I can have it if it'll work.
And sometimes I just make things harder than they need to be. It comes with being in the military for too long. I'm not trying to be a pain in the ass.
Besides cheap for me and cheap for anyone else probably have two different meanings. Government pays us workin people crap.
Erik D_lux 10-08-2003, 01:59 AM Why not just get wheel adapters that go from 6 to 8 lug?
sloburban 10-08-2003, 09:28 AM I hurd those wheel adapters dont really hold up to much abuse. And are they safe? Really truely safe?
badasshybrid 10-08-2003, 12:52 PM All you need is the larger backing plates, and 3/4 ton 8 lug rotors. If you know where to get the backing plates they run 80.00 to 100.00 for both NEW. And the rotors any parts house for 100.00 to 125.00 each NEW. Unless your calipers and spindles are screwed you will NOT need them. This is simple and easy to do.

Well you "hurd" wrong :flipoff2:
They will hold up and they are safe as long as you make sure the lug nuts are tight.

How about new hubs? I'm talking wheel bearing hubs, not lockouts. His six lug hubs probably won't match up to the eight lug rotors too well.:flipoff2:
badasshybrid 10-08-2003, 10:30 PM I dont think 8 lug rotors themselves are 100.00-125.00 each NEW. So, I guess I should have put complete hub and rotor assembly 100.00-125.00 each NEW.
NOODLES 10-08-2003, 11:16 PM Just find a 10 bolt 3/4 ton front and rob the outers off it, I damn near gave a 8 lug 10 bolt away earlier this year. my father in laws 87 suburban 3/4 ton even has the 8 lug 10 bolt. call wreckinng yards or try pick n pull
