warquad350 10-06-2003, 11:54 PM okay call me new, but i'm going to town building a pretty cool runner....okay, about the transmission...i have the stock one in now(87 4 runner 5speed) but it has a hole in bottom.....i can get a 4 speed out of 83 will that work...i'm planning on using dual cases...truck has ford 9" full width,buggy leaf, cehv 10 bolt in front...i just don't know much about tranny's NOODLES 10-07-2003, 02:02 AM yes it will work, unless you have a carbed truck, then it will have forward shift t-case and you need top shift for the ealier trans and later injected trans. it will also be somewhat shorter. but no big deal. the shifter I believe will be in a slightly different place. if for some reason it is a side shift 4 speed you do not want it, top loader is better.
