I got a 95 xj with 4.0. The a/c works decent but I like it cold and it gets real hot out here. The first question is, am I supposed to see bubbles in the little window on the acumulator(is that what its called?). And if i add a second condenser infront of the first, will that make a noticeable increase in performance? The a/c line going to the expansion valve is still rather hot when running. If I can drop the temp more i will get colder air inside correct?

I love the desert and cant afford to work on my a/c in the summer. Do you guys just not have a/c? I know it might weigh you down on the trail so you probably yank all that crap off huh?

First thing, first. Have your A/C checked for leaks. I'm not sure about the bubbles but I would think that your not supposed to have any. and Yes the cooler the freon is going into the expansion valve the colder it is comming out. However adding a radiator (probablly not the right term) in front of the expansion valve (and after the compressor of course) increases the volume that the compressor must fill before the A/C will build enough pressure to work properly. So if you do that you may need a bigger compressor.

Hey DEnd, thanks for the info. I was guessing that the compressor volume would be determined by the expansion valve and how much junk can get through the expansion valve how fast. Am I off or is it kinda both?

BTW whats a decent price to have a shop check for leaks?
Thanks again

shops will charge about 50 bucks.. to check it
if you still have the r12 they will want to retro fit the new freon..
thats another 50-80 bucks..
there is not supppose to be bubbles.. you are low on freon..
thats why its not cold cold..

Thanks mike. She has the new stuff r134a I believe. Since I am low there is a leak right the stuff doesnt wear out or diminish from blowby on the compressor does it? I am not sure the a/c has been serviced for the last 5 years or so.
