Anyone with 16v fix there VSS themselves?
Is there an easy way to do this, would like to keep my motor from going into Limp Home Mode.....
I havent hooked up the VSS to my spedo yet...any ideas?
Rude,
A guy I know used the magnet and pick up from a bicyle computer (has mph, tripometer, rpms and stuff) attached to his t'case and the rear drive shaft flange. Basically that is what the VSS is, a magnet and a pickup. So when the magnet passes the pick up it sends a pulse to the ecm. The ECM does a calculation to determine your speed (in concert with your tps, mass airflow and such) and what corresponding air fuel mixture your motor needs. There is a specific number you need (a coefficient, I think) to do the math to figure out the number of pulses to the ecm. I'll try to find it for you. You can vary the pulses by adding more pick ups and magnets to fine tune it if your rpms aren't right. The cost is under $15 cdn.
One thing you might what to look into is finding the suzuki technician training manual for Electronic Engine Management systems. It will teach you everything you need to know and more about this stuff. I have it and it saved my sanity many times.
Or better yet you could just liberate a VSS equiped speedo from a tracker, sidekick, swift gti etc. and save yourself the headache.
My friends trick worked quite well and actually improved the performance and mileage of his rig.
good luck!
