I have a Ford 4.0 that came out of a 1998 4WD Explorer with only 52,000 miles on it. Still attached to the 4.0 is an automatic transmission with transfer case. Also comes with the starter, alternator, A/C compressor, ECM, wiring harness, gas tank, fuel lines, etc... anything you want that's still attached to the carcass if you need it. Located in Bloomington, IL and can deliver anywhere in the state if needed.
I'd like to get $750.00 for everything, but will consider all offers or trades...lemme know what you got. I'd be interested in a good welder, Suzuki Samurai parts, a strong Chevy 350 long block, ???
I was going to swap this combo into a Samurai, but it's just way too big, too heavy, and too difficult for me to do. I have since obtained another engine for the Samurai, so this Explorer stuff needs to go.
Can email pics upon request.

Thanks, I'll post over there as well.
Did I mention that this is the optional SOHC engine, not the standard 4.0???

Im pretty shure its never changed but I have a 91 RANGER with a 4.0, and Im in need of a new tranny. Would you or somebody know if it will bolt up correctly to an earlier year 4.0? If I could get a straight answer I would possibly be intrested in the tranny.

The later trannies are computer controlled(after '94 maybe?), unlike your A4LD. Might even be a 5spd auto, John?

Yes, the 98 Explorer came with a 5 speed automatic.

Dude, that sucks.
I paid $1000 for just the motor alone here in Santa Rosa, CA.
And I still want the 5r55e!
