: Old Land Rover: what's it worth?

Okay, I realize I don't have anywhere near enough info to get accurate figures, but I am just looking for ballpark, so I can see if it's worth getting. I know almost nothing about Land Rovers, but have always liked them. This is one of the old short wheelbase (model 88???) rigs like you would see on safari. It has been sitting for several years, so I am assuming major mechanical problems, but don't yet know what. The body looks pretty good from a distance, but I haven't seen the interior.
Not much to go on, but I am planning on talking to the owner about it and looking at it up close. I just want a general idea of what price range would be reasonable, as well as what running ones are worth. Thanks for any info you can give me.

too many variables. Check it out first. Rust is thy enemy.

Its only worth what you are willing to pay.

Seth has it right.

If the frame is intact, it is worth far more. Expect the outriggers behind the seat box around the fuel tank to be rusted out, likewise the rear crossmember.

Next, the bulkhead is a concern. Check the area around the hinges as these rust badly and are not the most pleasant to replace. If the doors close smartly, the hinges are likely to be in good shape. They are also prone to rusting in the footwells (although not nearly as bad to repair) and along the top where the windshield mates.

If the frame and bulkhead are intact, the rest is just details. Potentially expensive details if the vehicle is not complete. Wiper motors are particularly dear.

If the frame is not intact, expect a very expensive rebuild. But, keep in mind that Series Rovers are little more than big Erector Sets.
