I know that a couple people are...like Woody, 71RCKCRZR, and???

How did you go about fitting them? (i.e. please describe your lift)

Reversed FJ-40 springs with 5 leafs in the front. Shackle hanger is below the frame...not through it. 2" over stock shackles.

Stock FJ-55 springs in the rear. 2" over stock shackles.

Juditious use of the bumpstop. It is about 2 inches over the axle, however with the wide axles, i get full compression.

38 14.50's in winter, 42's in summer. SOA, sr front, thru frame std soa rear, shackle to buggy under frame. cut up to top of wheel well and back slightly around back, maintaining oem wheel well shape. stock-ish wrangler springs. May end up running a 1.5 or 2" lift- we'll see. front moved forward, rear moved back from stock. w.b. =98"

55 springs in back, reversed stock springs in the front. No shackle reversal. Very simple, standard SO.

Dave does that mean you are selling your 36's (I think thats what you had)

I am contemplating a trimming scheme to allow 35s with basically no lift. I am thinking rais the fenders in the front to the hood level and tub the rear.

I am also running 38.5x14.50 sx's with a S/O with stock springs with a shackle reversal. The rear is cut out up to the wheel wells and have tube fenders in the front hood high. I am going 60's
F & R for next year and might go waggy springs at the same time .

SORRY NO PICS BUT I WAS RUNNING 4" SPRING UNDER....REVOLVERS ON ALL 4 CORNERS...CUSTOM SHACKLE REVERSAL +2" LIFT....AND 1" BODY LIFT

THE FRONT SPRIND WAS NOT FLIPPED BUT MOVED UP 3".....
THE REAR SPRINGS WERE FLIPPED,INBOARDED 3" EACH SIDE,AND MOVED BACK 3"

THE REAR AXLE IS 61" FRONT WAS 55"....
ALL FOUR CORNERS USES BUMPSTOPS....
THE FRONT TIRE AT FULL FLEX CATCHES THE INNER FENDER SO BAD IT LOCKS UP THAT TIRE......THATS WHY I PULLED THE FENDERS OFF AND MOVING THEM UP TO THE HOOD....

WHEN I HAD THE STOCK REAR WITH 35X12.50 BFGS.....THE STUFFED SIDE WOULD HIT THE INSIDE TUB AND STOP THE OTHER SIDE FROM DROOPING ......THAT SUCKED

AFTER THIS PAST WEEKEND I NOW HAVE A 63" D44 UP FRONT WITH SOA W/WRANGLER SPRINGS.......HAVNT RAMPED IT BUT ITS GONNA FLEX BETTER THAN THE REVOLVERS......

I run stock FJ55 rear spring packs at all 4 corners of mine....rear is factory 8 leaves, front has one additional leaf for 9 total. Front has a recessed-reversed shackle and custom front mount. Rear is nothing fancy, just a relocated shackle hanger. Have a ~1" body lift in there too. Missing rear bumpstops, rely on inner fenders. Front uses ALL of 14" travel shocks. Mine is probably one of the "lower" 38.5 setups, since I can still clear my garage door opening.

Tanks guys...excellent info. That was what I was looking for.
I'm probably gonna look into the waggie springs...maybe the 7 leaf ones.

Not sure about moving axles yet. The front is already moved forward some and the rear has been moved back a couple of inches. Wheel base = 93"...might be more after I'm done.

Looks like I'm gonna need TJ flares on the rear.

Arndog, I've got 35s right now (used to have 36s a couple of years ago). I'll probably be selling the 35s early this spring (w/ the wheels). If you are interested just keep in touch.

I have been sorta daydreaming about running 38x14.5 SX tires under my pig. But I love my 2F.

Yeah, I know. I'm insane.

What do you think of this recipe?

38x14.5 SX tires on 15x10 rims, no beadlocks
4.88 diffs
SM465<->NP203GRB<->4spdtcase
newfields

Motor has 20k on stock-spec rebuild, it's running a header and will be TBI by spring. I already have the doubler. Going from 4.11 to 4.88 would bring my lowest gear from 105 to 125. Axles are stock, but I will be going to a rear full-floater with an 80-series locking diff sometime next year.

I'll probably stick with 35x14.5s SSR or maybe go 36x12.5 SX. I think the 38s would be great under the pig, but I'm not ready to swap engines. It's already butt-slow on the road with the 35s. I don't need to go fast on the road...

Morgan,

I run 38.5's and a 2F on the road a lot. Sure it is a pig, but I can cruise at 65 still on flat roads.

That is with a enemic 2F with 180K on it and a Weber 38 that does not like the road due to the 2lb electric fuel pump.

The 4.88's will make up for going from 35's to 38's on the road. It should run the same.

As for beadlocks, you won't need them with 14.50's on a 10" wheel. Done that, low pressure, never lost a bead.

As for Newfields, I would go with the "Unbreakable" ones for $185 that everyone in the Toy Truck section is raving about.

I really like George from Newfield, but his product is CERTAINLY not worth $250. I went through 5 of them.

Alright! Votes of confidence! I'm glad to see there are people pushing 38s with a 2F.

Jason, that is a sweet engine compartment shot.

Nolen, why did I think you had a Chevy small block? Glad to hear the 2F can do the job.

Hindsight being 20/20, I wish I'd gone for a little bit of hot rod when I rebuilt the 2F.
