: new range rover. a few ?'s
4runner88 10-09-2003, 05:49 PM tried some searches and found some good info but not exactly what i was lookin for..
its a 1990 range rover. and i have a few questions...
will a 15" wheel fit?? what backspacing? i know that they are 16's now but i have some 32" x 10.50 x 15 tsl's in the garage.
would just save me some cash. also will 32's fit without any lift or triming?
also where is a good place to get coils/coil spacer's/BodyLift?
thanks!
aloharover 10-09-2003, 05:52 PM I have been told that 15's will not fit because of interferance with the calipers.
No idea on max size tires with stock suspension.
For springs and stuff, check out Rover Tym (www.rovertym.com)
They are local to you also ;)
64rovr 10-09-2003, 05:54 PM Yes you can fit 15" wheels. A good source is www.gulfcoastrovers.com
32s will fit with a cheap ($150) 2" lift. Look for Old Man Emu or RoverTym springs. For a small lift like that, you don't *need* new shocks, but they will improve flex significantly.
A few good sources for parts:

Old Scout 10-09-2003, 06:08 PM After you see what Rover pattern wheels cost you may just want and go get some 16" tires!

15x8s for ~$55 each... cheaper than a new set of tires I do believe...? :flipoff2:
4runner88 10-09-2003, 06:21 PM ya i need to change my profile... no longer in NC. i'm in wyoming.
so how much we talkin for some steelie 15" wheels? where can ya get them at?
if switchin to 15 is too much $$, i would like to use discovery steelies. any of yal know anybody tryin to get rid of there stock discovery steelies? or where to get them?!
sorry bout all the questions... new to the range rover deal.
Serious One 10-09-2003, 06:42 PM Stock 15 inch LR rims won't fit, but custom ones will. I have some 15 inch beadlocks I got at Wilamette Wheel (no longer around) that were originally purchased for my '90 RRC.
Disco steelies? Call George at www.roversdownsouth.com (be prepared to get sworn at or to tell him a dirty joke).
I dunno if he has any or not, but there's also www.tntlr.com and www.gulfcoastrovers.com.
If you are a newbie to the RRC scene I highly suggest John Brabyn's site at www.rangerovers.net.
Welcome newbie! :flipoff2:

I have stock 15" Series wheels on my 1990 RR. They clear the caliper just fine, but in the front, the barb from the bleed nipple (easy Merv) interferes and needs to be ground off (almost flush with the hex surface but not quite).

red90rover 10-09-2003, 06:55 PM 15x8 with 4" or 41/2" backspacing. The AR ones that Gulf Coast Rovers are the lowest cost choice I've seen.

You'll need to trim and lower bump stops or body lift. Also the spare won't fit, but who cares... Cut that puppy up
:flipoff2:
4runner88 10-09-2003, 11:14 PM thanks! so i can go with 32's on 15's! sweet! with AR ones from Gulf Coast Rovers do i need too grind down the barb from the bleed nipple?
ya and i dont mind about cuttin it up.
man and a 2" BL would only be 57 dollars cheaper than gettin some OME coils... and only 80 bucks less if i go with rovertym coils.
hum how many inches would the heavey duty OME give me... and is i go with the Rovertym.. 2" or 3"
also looks like running new coils is less then running spacers!
that shocked me.
thanks fellas!

Spare will fit, just need to persuade the hole with a 5 lb adjustment tool! :flipoff2:
pendy 10-10-2003, 12:41 AM I am feeling gracious toward fellow newbies today. It may turn out to be a big hassle I do not need but I have an offer for you. I have an old set of 4 American Centerline wheels in 8 inch width and 15 inch hieght. I also have an old set of 3 inch OME that are sagged to a tall 2 inch lift. the springs are rusty, grind and paint. 150 plus shipping.
Also I have a collection of about 25 old RRC spring. I could probably pick out a set that would give you a 1.5 to 2 inch lift. Free you pay shipping. Then I will tell you how to cut out your fender wells, Pendy style. If you cut Pendy style you will be shopping for 35-36 inch tires if you go with a 2 inch lift. Do not worry about flex it is overated anyway.

luke4696 10-10-2003, 07:54 AM Pendy,
Got any tricks for a DII? 38's with a OME lift?

Quiet, just when he thought the 32s would be OK...... :flipoff2:
4runner88 10-10-2003, 11:40 AM geeze.. what i am i gonna need to do to upgrade these axles?
does it need to be done with 32's??!?!?

Oh no. :nuke:
luke4696 10-10-2003, 11:49 AM Not that I am an expert, but I am running 265/75/16's and have not had issues as of yet. The consensus, from what I can gather, is that the 32" tire is fine for the stock drive train and some light/moderate wheeling. But more aggrssive driving coupled with TT's or lockers would necessitate multiple upgrades. So I guess the question is, what are ya' gonna do with the truck?
-Luke
pendy 10-10-2003, 12:11 PM Luke has 24 spline axles compared to 4rnrs 10 spline. The 10 splines will hold up a while but keep it in mind before you spend any money on them like lockers, uprated axles and such. You need a plan if you want to use the truck hard with big tires.
Luke I think it could happen. 38's on a DII. Better let me make the cuts in person. What other suspension mods do you have to correct caster? And I think dana 60's are probably in order for 38's. Sure you want to do that?

Ran_over 10-10-2003, 12:33 PM When I purchased my 15x8's from GCR, the money I saved buying 33x12.5x15 MTR's vs. a 16" size payed for the wheels and shipping.
Not to mention that they weigh considerably less that LR alloys, and I can straighten them (sort of) with a rubber mallet.
Craig
Rubber Mallet:confused: Where's the fun in that! I use nothing but the 5 lb adjustment tool for "Adjusting" things.:D
4runner88 10-10-2003, 11:48 PM well the RPM gauge never moves... whats goin on with it? all other gauges and electrical things seem to be just fine.
the guy i got it from says its been out for at least a year.
so i guess its not causing any problems but i would like to fix it.
thanks again for all the help
red90rover 10-11-2003, 09:02 AM The tach is run from the alternator. Check the connections at the alternator first, tach second.
