Good grief...

got my replacement turn-signal/horn switch and figured the reinstall would be easy. Well, bolted it back in and reconnected the wires. Fiddled around with the turn-signal relay and got it working. Good.

Then went to fiddle with the hazard light switch and relay. Took some time, but finally got that working. Plugged the wiper switch back in, and nothing.

Then went to try out the turn signals...nothing

Hazards...still work

So I fiddle with the nightmare of nondescript wires under neath the dash figuring that the accessory lead must have been disconnected. Fiddled enough to get the wipers working again, but the wiper control box (the device that resets the wipers back to the down position when you turn 'em off) isn't working and the wipers will just stop in the middle of the windshield.

And the turn signals still don't work.

And the hazards quit working.

Whenever I finally meet Lucas, I'm gonna take a warm keg of Guiness and bash it over his frickin' head. What an @sshole.

Believe me, the ECU was simple!!! It's the only thing that works!

Well, finally got it wired back up. The hazard switch is a major problem...contacts old and/or broken. Had to do a little splicing to get both the hazards working and my turn signals working (the accessory lead for the turn signals runs through the hazard switch)...

...also got the dimmer switch working...now I can see my guages (which don't work anyways).

The wipers are still a crap-shoot...they work, they just don't reset automatically. I don't know if there is a problem with the control box, or a loose lead. Who knows. I'll worry about it next year when it rains :flipoff2:

And my wife tells me the brake lights don't work. but when I test them, they do. BTW, the supposed brake-light switch on the master cylinder with the two wires running out of it...it isn't the brake light switch. I disconnect it, and the brake lights still work (and nothing blows up, either). I don't know what that circuit is for or where the hell my brake light switch is. F'n A!

Adam, have faith. I can get your engine running with just the ECU and a car battery. I can't guarantee anything else will work. My '83 came with 3 fuses from the factory and 20 years of backyard fixes ready for me to enjoy!

Briggs, Painless is painful on my pocket book. I've got about 15 relays, a power distribution block, and Slade's old fuse-block from his '90...I'll slowly get around to cleaning up the nightmare under the dash.

Tonight I have won. Tomorrow that damn truck is for sale :flipoff2:

The wipers on my '79 RR sometime won't park and I fooled around with them for a long time trying to correct it. I found that dust gets into the switch and a good hosing down with WD40 or contact cleaner usually gets it working right again.

My heater switch works the wipers and my wiper switch runs the heater motor.
I switch the wires around and nothing works. So I switched em back. Then changed the dash labels.
People do think its funny when I push on the heater knob and water squirts on the window....yes window, only the passanger side works
;)
