What considerations to take in replacing 72'stock f engine with later model 84' 2f engine? Thanks

i have a 2f in my 72. i didnt do it though..bought it like this. i believe engine mounts are the same. dont kjnow much else..sorry

It's a shoe-in - everything lines-up. The 2F is a larger displacement than the F (3.9 vs 4.2?). Go for it. It's just like swapping in a 350 for a 305.

The 2f will bolt right in where the f is, They both use the same exact block and the mounts are in the same place as well.The only prob. you may have is if you are planning on keeping the three speed be sure to use the three speed bell housing.

all your intake and exaust man bolts up,
it will look just like your f, but with a better valve cover. but the f vc will fit too.

I put a 2f from a 76 into my 73. the only thing I had too keep 2f is the water pump. it had an extra port for the factory oil cooler.

Yes, the 2F is a 4.2L motor.

My friend in Squaw just did his f to 2f and the only problem he had was the aircleaner hitting the brake master cylinder. I believe that wardens did the brake conversion for him and he had the longer master in there though. Late Tom

My '71 has a 2F which was put in by the PO. I think to aviod the air cleaner issue in the last post they used the smaller air cleaner assembly from the original F. Works fine.

what is the realistic power upgrade to this swap. I know the 2f has a better oiling system and is slightly bigger in displacement. the book I looked in shows a 10 hp increase, is this about right?

My son has spun a bearing in the Blue toy and I thought that if the 2f would fit he could use the one from my FJ60 partsmobile. <IMG SRC="smilies/biggrin.gif" border="0"> For the time being I think we will stuff new bearings in to get him back on the road. The 2F is definately a great swap. It will bolt right up and you really shouldn't have any problems. I am running a 2F out a 78 FJ40 in my 72. As long as it's a strong motor, you'll be happy with the swap. <IMG SRC="smilies/usa.gif" border="0">
