: Waggy D44 to 5 x 5.5
turtlehead 12-11-2001, 03:08 PM Looking for a complete list of parts needed to convert a Waggy D44 front to a 5 on 5.5" bolt pattern. I have heard to get early Chevy backing plates, callipers, and spindle with Ford rotors and hubs. But what years are we talking about? What model truck? Solid axle, or twin I beam for the Ford. Are the Waggy outer axels the right length for all this. What else should I be considering?
Any help appreciated.:rasta:
Rat Patrol 12-11-2001, 03:31 PM What year waggy axle do you have? I dont know if theres a difference, but on my '75 waggy front, I used 78 f-150 solid axle hubs and rotors. Chevy caliper brackets, and the waggy spindles. The axle shaft were fine, but this swap makes the axle about an inch or so wider than it originally was. Which is good right? I see in your sig. you have a YJ, so I'm guessing you have a drivers drop waggy D44, mine is passenger drop, its should be the same, but I'm sure someone else here can verify that. Good luck.

turtlehead 12-11-2001, 03:49 PM Jeremy,
It is from a mid 80's Waggy, drivers side drop, without vacume disconnect. A couple inches wider is no problem and probably a plus. I heard that the Chevy spindles will allow for a big bearing in the Ford hub? Thanks
Well, not that it hasn't been covered here a hundred times if one... You need spindles, backing plates, and calipers from a '74 to '76 Wagoneer or Cherokee or '76 or older 1/2 ton Chevy pickup. You need wheel hubs and rotors from say '76 to '86 Ford F150 or Bronco. Solid axle or TTB is doesn't matter. Next time try a search. I know we covered this one last week. Good luck with your swap.
Charly 12-11-2001, 05:35 PM Yeah, if you are searching in the yards, don't overlook the early 77 GM trucks either, I found mine in a 77 GMC 1/2 ton built in 5/77. (Small bearing spindles, calipers and mounting plates)
Also, the 76-92 Ford 1/2 ton hub/rotor assemblies are all the same.
The lengh of your Wag outers is fine (other jeep and GM outers are same length BTW, good for spares)
Good Luck,
Charly
Bgcj5 12-11-2001, 05:47 PM Why bother mixing and matching parts when u can simply find any dodge half ton including Ramchargers from 80 - 86. Take everything from the knuckle out. U get 5 x 5.5 bolt pattern and 2 flat top knuckles for high steer and u don't have to mix and match anything.
JohnC 12-11-2001, 05:54 PM Are the dodge hubs internal spline or bolted though?
66CJdean 12-11-2001, 06:02 PM 80-86 will be internal. Bolt on stuff is pretty old or 3/4 ton at times.
turtlehead 12-12-2001, 09:59 AM Thanks for the input guys! Are the spindles from the early Cherokee/Wagoneer the same size as the pre 76 Chevy stuff? Which one would be more desireable- caliper size and wheel bearing size. I already have a pair of flat top nuckles so the brakes, spindle, hub and rotor are my only concern. THKs
The '74-76 Waggie and pre-77 Chevy spindles and calipers are identical.
Bgcj5 12-12-2001, 11:51 AM The hubs I got on mine were external, also warn makes a conversion for like 75 bucks to get rid of the internal hubs if u get them.
turtlehead 12-12-2001, 08:56 PM Thanks for all the input. This will save me many hours of BS at P-n-P this weekend...more time for Beer & Wheel'n. :rasta: :usa:
