Did a search, came up empty. Been thinking about taking the tub out and making a flatbed = better clearance more room. any pics, ideas, suggestions?

My buddy Rockbuggy and I were thinking about this and it seems like it would be a cool idea. My thought is, chop the tub off right behind the front seats, and build a type of square stock flatbed onto the remaining frame.. would be really cool!

I have a '76 FSJ and I am contemplating the same basic idea. My buddy suggested that I look at the J-truck beds and compare the body lines. If all lines up well and looks decent I am gonna cut the behind the front doors and weld a bed on it.

What were you thinking of using for a rear bulk head? or were you gonna leave it open?

All in all seems like it would be a fairly easy mod.:usa: :jeep: :jeep:

Here's Terry Howe's flatty with the back of the tub cut off. A flatbed could have easily been incorporated into the design.

I say throw a pickup bed on and go that way, we were gonna do this to a freinds Jeep bud decided it would just be easier to shorten the wheelbase of his J-20 (factory ff60, t-18, D-20, decent V-8 can't ask for much more from the factory) and then build a flatbed on that. If your gonna do a flatbed on a CJ/YJ what I would do is get some diamond plate corners and use those for the corner right behind the door opening and then come up with whatever back material you want (would be cool to put a tailgate in there just so it says "JEEP") Also think about making it the right size so you might be able to drop a half cab on it

if yah read 4wheeldrive and sport utility magazine yah will see that jp offroad is coming out with an aluminum body called the j bucket which is basically a jeep tub that ends behind the door. would be perfect for the flatbed dealio. they are putting this yub on a scrambler so who knows what they are gonna do

JP Offroad is only going to put this out if there is enough interest in it.And the dude from J.P. Mag is using with a CJ-7 frame. There is a guy on this board that chopped his Wrangler behind the front seats.I don't remember who it was.I think it was one of the Benders. It was looking really good.I would cut behind the doors and and use the full wrap around diamond corners to fill the back and weld it shut.Make it so you could use a Scrambler half cab.Blazin:rasta:

i talked to jp offroad yesterday and they said they could build it for me but arent mass producing them yet. i guess its a competition body they designed for themselves. they were supposed to call back today with a price but didnt.

I was going to be a smart ass and name that bed... but then u posted this pic that gave away the secret....

Simular beds from a Datsun PL truck.... either PL510 (1300cc) or PL520(1600cc) between 67ish to early 70's

This one is late 60's early 70's judging by the tailgate clamps

hehe.... now if I could figure out how to put a Datsun Roadster on a Jeep..... or hmmmmmm a samari......

OH my...... I would be in mixed up hog heaven......

SCCA 4x4 events...... hahaaaaaaaaahaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

this is the same thing as a stock jeep but with a Datsun bed. The whole idea about a flat bed is to eliminate the fender wells.
